Prince George, B.C. – Prince George RCMP are investigating a collision that led to a traffic tie-up on Highway 16 west at Ferry Avenue Saturday afternoon.
The collision shortly after noon involved a small car and a motorcycle. One person was taken to University Hospital of Northern BC to be checked over. The nature of their injuries is not available.
An eyewitness says the accident resulted traffic being backed up in all four directions at what has become the most accident prone intersection in the city.

Never now when the lights are going to change at this intersection. Hey Hwy’s dept how about setting up the lights to warn of an impending red light. Hey its not rocket science though it seems like it to you guys.
Not saying this was the cause of the crash but those lights are set up by idiots.
Or have the left turn lanes N/S be like the stand alone signals like it is E/W.
ya too bad there wasn’t some kind of system in place to warn drivers the light is going to change, Maybe something like a yellow light to warn people the light is going to change to red from green. oh wait never mind.
same old story. whoever sets the timing on the lights in this town should try driving a loaded semi through it.the lights at 5th and tabor flash like xmas tree lights.it’s impossible to anticipate them or any other set of lights in town.
I see four men there in the pic. 3 firemen and one cop. Ablulance there with 2 more people you don’t see. Probably 2 or 3 more men sitting in the fire truck which we also don’t see here. Real good value for our tax dollars here. 8 or 9 people @ how much per hour? What a waste of money and resourses.
What a moron!
I’m not a firefighter but would venture to guess that when a call goes out they all need to go, incase of the situation, or if another call comes while they are at the accident… Regardless I don’t see a waste of money at all.
Traffic lights don’t cause accidents unless they are defective. When it’s green you go. When it’s yellow or red you don’t go. 95% of the people in this town are just terrible drivers.
Its not a waste of money, they get paid if they don’t go so why not send them just in case? One accident already, and the way people drive in this town there could be an accident while someone tries to avoid the current accident.
They need red light cameras back there, my friend got hit one night by someone who ran the red but because there were no witnesses ICBC faulted it 50/50.
But how is the rider?
Chances are the car turned left into the path of the m/c. Riders must anticipate this happening, just assume the car drivers are out to get you, they turn in front of you, or change lanes suddenly, its a jungle out there.
metalman.
People run red lights and people jump green lights! Speeding doesn’t help either. Add in a couple of distracted drivers a look out! Seen a gal the other day texting on her motor cycle.
It’s okay, mattyc thinks these folks are paid per call. One day he might understand.
I’ve entered that intersection, making a left northbound on 16, on a green and have it go to red before I’m through the intersection. I’m not necessarily saying this causes accidents, but it’s a bit short for the amber.
Anyway, maybe if we all were a bit more vigilant in these high-risk intersections, there’d be fewer accidents.
Why does every story which has a picture of the mayor have to draw some brain dead comment on her appearance? Just sayin’…
findme: “Traffic lights don’t cause accidents unless they are defective. When it’s green you go. When it’s yellow or red you don’t go.”
I have to agree with this.
You are imagining things again, JB. The mayor is not in the above picture … LMNAO..

You are right. Humans cause accidents when they program traffic lights ineffectively.
i was back to get city last month & in two days there was two accident the third time i needed to go to Costco i found a different route i lived there for 32 years moved up to the peace to work and plan ON moving back BUT THE DRIVERS THERE NEED TO SLOW DOWN ,AND LONGER LIGHTS AT MAJOR INTERSECTIONS GET MORE TRAFFIC MOVING . BUT CAN HARDLY WAITE TO GET BACK
If there is a city bylaw for not protecting kids with signs then there shouldn’t be any signs or lights for stupid drivers either. Everyone is at there own risk in this city.
Marttyc let me clue you in.. First off it was a accident at a major intersection.. Second if there is any kind of fluid leaks it met be cleaned up properly, third there are at least two victims to deal with, fourth you are assuming the fire truck has a bunch of guys sitting around, fifth how about making sure you know what you are talking about before guessing as to who’s doing what in the picture…..
In my opinion it does not require 8 or 9 personell to attend every one of these incidents. One cop and one ambulance would suffice I would argue. At least until the cop has a chance to see the situation then if required a fire truck could be called. Sending out this many monkeys to every single incident is a waste of money. That many people is just not required.
To mattyc, if you are ever in an accident, I hope for you that the jaws of life are not required as the one police officer and the one ambulance won’t be helping you much! It’s always better to have more. Why not just send one police officer, maybe he can determine if other services are required while he directs traffic.
Sure there are only what, 12 odd lanes of traffic there? One officer should be able to write it up and control traffic, no problem.
What do you care anyway Matty, none of the city personnel are on your dime, you are rural remember. Actually according to your own tax claims you don’t really pay for the provincial guys either :)
LOL that is true interceptor. I aint paying for it. But it just makes me shake my head in amazement every time I see this stuff and the way it is handled. I do my utmost to make sure I do not have to pay for this nonsense. I was only saying what I think. After all I do not see a fire in that pic. Is that not what firemen are for at 75 thousand a year? To deal with fires?
Yep you got it all figured out. I would point out how rediculous that statement is but I have been sucked deep enough into the Mattyc vortex for such a beautiful day
Peace
On at least 3 different occasions, I’ve seen a vehicle blast through a red light at that intersection. It is horrifying to see people in front of you in the turning lane on Ferry and see someone drive right through the red light cutting off the people turning. The light had been red for some time as the cars were already turning. I think drivers should take more care and pay attention to the color of the lights when they are approaching intersections.
How do you know that it was a car that cut off the mc. I was driving on 5th to the central when I mc cut in front of me from the left side. At the time I was in the left lane so where did the mc come from? He had been driving down the oncoming traffic lane and at Spruceland use the opening to get back into the correct traffic. A witness said that he went into the oncoming traffic at 5th & Lyon. I was able to avoid him as the car beside me had turned into Spruceland. By the way he still had to wait for the light.
Still on the topic of mc, thank you to the harley driver who has left his muffler on. Your bike is quite and I can still see you.
Mattyc.. You are calling ambulance paramedics, firefighters etc monkeys.. Show some class. They all put their lives on the line for us everyday..
I know your biggest accomplishment each day is saying ” welcome to Walmart” but others strive to help the public.
