Wet Weather Keeps A Lid On Forest Fire Threat

Provincial Forest Fire Danger Rating for July 12, 2013    courtesty BC Wildfire Management Branch

Prince George, BC – The Prince George Fire Centre has responded to 16 new fires over the past week…

Fire Information Officer Dustin Eno says all of the new fires remained small and no structures were threatened.  Eno says while there has been fire activity across most of the fire centre, the majority of incidents have been in the Fort Nelson zone.

However, Eno says the recent cool, wet weather is helping crews from the Wildfire Management Branch wrap up response operations on many wildfires.

He says the largest fire in the region is approximately 1,000-hectares, burning in a remote area west of the Liard River – it’s a ‘modified response’ fire, meaning crews are allowing it to burn at this time, but are monitoring it through air patrols.

With a high pressure weather system expected to move into the region by tomorrow, the Fire Centre is preparing for a return to warmer, drier conditions by early next week.
