Competitors in the 13-14 year old category take to Four Seasons Pool

Prince George, BC – Forget a lazy Sunday morning for the 165 competitors in this year’s 2013 Prince George Kids’ Triathlon…

After a 7:30am check-in, the swim portion of the race began at 9am sharp.

One of the event organizers, Aron Alexander, says the local triathlon has grown every year – up from 140 participants in 2012 – and this year included participants from Fort St. John, Chetwynd, and Quesnel.

"It’s been a fantastic event," says Alexander.  "We were worried about rain, but it’s been really good."

It takes about 40 volunteers to coordinate the three legs of the race.  For those 8 and under, the triathlon involves a 50m swim, 4km cycle, and 1km.

Eight-year-old Brooklyn Fochler (left) did the swimming, while her best friend, Mateya Harvey (right) did the bike route from the pool to Fort George Park, where both girls ran the final kilometre as a team.

It was Brooklyn’s first triathlon and Mateya’s second and both were excited to have finished and already making plans to compete again next year!

According to Alexander, the youngest competitor entered in this year’s event was just two-years-old, while the oldest were 15.
