Go For Green, REAPS Offers How-To Ideas

The REAPS garden neighbours Fort George Park and is open daily until October

Prince George, BC –  There’s no time like summertime to ‘get your green on’…

Having just wrapped up ‘Go For Green’ week – featuring recycled crafts and buggy bingo for the kids – the Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society will host two free workshops this afternoon at its Gorse Street Garden.

REAPS Community Ambassador, Christine Anderson, (at right) sits in the gazebo where composting and vermicomposting demonstrations are held two times per week throughout the summer.  The composting workshop begins at 2pm on Sundays and Wednesdays, followed by vermicomposting at 3:15pm.

But Anderson says the garden is open daily until October and people are welcome to stop by, "We always have brochures out and we’re open to answering any questions they may have about composting, recycling in Prince George – anything like that."

Anderson says a lot of people wander in from Fort George Park to browse the garden and see what it’s all about, while a number of city residents pop by with specific issues they may be facing in their homes or yards.

REAPS serves the entire regional district of Fraser-Fort George, from Hixon, to Valemount and Mackenzie.  Members travel to those communities to host workshops and were, most recently, involved in a community day at Nukko Lake.

Anderson’s summer position is funded by a grant from HRDC.
