Wednesday, July 17, 2013 @ 3:10 PM
Prince George, B.C.- A 23 year old man is in custody following a very public arrest at the Parkwood Mall.

Early this afternoon, a member of the Prince George Downtown Enforcement Unit spotted a man leaving an apartment building in the 1800 block of Upland Street. The officer identified the man as one who was a suspect in a recent assault investigation.

The suspect fled behind an adjacent building and other officers were called to the scene to assist.

Around 1:00, the suspect took off on a BMX style bike heading north on Upland towards 15th Avenue.   Police were not far behind.

A coordinated effort had the suspect surrounded by officers in the parking lot at Parkwood Mall, where the suspect quickly surrendered.

The man is a suspect in a July 11th incident which involved an assault of a woman. When police had arrived at the scene of that complaint, their suspect had fled, and attempts to locate him were unsuccessful until he was spotted earlier today.

The suspect is currently on probation for:
·         Uttering threats (2 counts)
·         Assault

Following the arrest, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a stolen bicycle, believed to be the same bike used by the suspect as he tried to flee today.

The 23 year old is in custody and will appear in court tomorrow.
