Prince George, B.C. – Thomas the Train is on track for three full days of all things related to the popular children’s story at the Railway and Forestry Museum.
Today through Sunday, (10-3 each day) the annual three day "Friends of Thomas Days" family event features pancake breakfasts, mini rail rides, crafts, story telling and a BBQ. Of course the trains on site will be decked out as “Friends of Thomas”, the mischievous train engine whose antics have delighted kids for years.
"The weather is going to be great" says Ranjit Gill, Executive Director of the Railway and Forestry Museum. "We have set up some sprinklers so the kids don’t get too hot, we have put up some tents, now all we need is for everyone to come out and enjoy it."
The event is not free, but is a major fund raising effort for the Railway and Forestry Museum.
This season has been a difficult one says Gill, as the tent caterpillar infestation in Prince George had a negative impact, as would be visitors took a pass on the outdoor exhibits offered at the site. No one wanted to wander through the grounds with the creepy crawlers on the march through the Cottonwood Island Park.
The caterpillars are gone, the leaves are back on the trees , now it’s up to the Friends of Thomas Days to help put everything back on track for the season.

2 questions:
how does this operation effect the ft george park operation?
Is this a copyright infringement being as the books and video productions are copyrighted?
The Fort George train is owned by the city and operated by the Exploration Place Museum. No relationship to the Railway Museum. The locomotive is called the Little Prince and is 101 years old. It was used in the building of the railway to the west.
That is not the question.
Little prince has had some operating tribulations in the last year due to funding. The operators have worked hard to make it a going concern. Now the railway museum has usurped that effort with their copyright infringing operation in direct competition.
Is there an effect to the first mini train ride with this competitor?
The train at the Railway Museum has been running for years….. Essentially year round including events during the winter holiday season….commonly referred to as Christmas.
Check out the Railway Museum.

Competitor? Whatever
The train at the railway museum isn’t even the same kind of thing. It’s really cool and all, but it’s quite wee. Completely different kind of attraction. We always do both each summer and I can’t say that we’d ride the park train an extra time if Thomas days weren’t on. I’m sure it’s not much of a factor in the park train bottom line.
