Tourism Head Says 2015 Games Visitors Will Have Plenty To Do

Prince George, B.C. – The head of Tourism Prince George says there will plenty to do here for visitors during the 2015 Canada Winter Games besides watching the competitions.
Reminded that this city doesn’t have a thriving nightlife or a central entertainment district, Tourism CEO Aidan Kelly says “The Games (organizers) are working around that as well. There’s an arts and culture plan that’s associated with the games so there’s going to be a lot more activity that’s taking place in terms of non-official games-related activities. I think there’s some really cool stuff that will be coming down the pipeline in that regard. And also, from a tourism standpoint, all the kind of assets that we have if people are looking for outdoor activities we’ve got all the facilities and amenities right in Prince George, basically. And then within a 15-minute radius we’ve got all those outdoor activities so we’ve got that good fusion of the urban and the wilderness elements. So there’s a lot of activities that people can get engaged and involved with.”
Kelly says another aspect receiving attention is where people will eat. “It’s going to be really interesting to see how the dining works out, because we have a great selection of diverse restaurants in Prince George that are pretty busy on a regular basis. So people can experience all the different food options that we have.”
“So I think that there is plenty for the people to do, the non-traditional games stuff, and that will be a combination of efforts from marketing from our standpoint at Tourism Prince George in conjunction with the 2015 Canada Winter Games people. They’re definitely ramping up the arts and culture and the nightly concerts and community events, things of that nature that will be happening every single day. I’m looking forward to it.”

Excuse me, did Kelly really say anything?
There are still vestiges of the Halifax games on the net.
Halifax is the centre or Atlantic Canada’s culture. PG is not the centre of BC’s culture. The games are BC’s as well as Prince George’s. What is the province, for instance, doing to bring a BC image of culture and entertainment to PG during the two weeks, from small groups in restaurants, banquet rooms, the playhouse, TNW facilties, Vanier Hall, outdoor venues where appropriate?

BTW, what is the connection between Tourism PG and the Canada Winter Games organizers?
Who’s in charge of making the whole thing click, including working with local entertainment providers and venues to make sure there is an excess and that they are funded to bring BC talent to PG during the two weeks?
How is the hotel tax money being spent that year and who is in charge of that?
These missives from people we think ought to know something are kind of useless.
I thought there was a communications department that was in charge of talking to the media about the games, including what the associated organizations are doing to make sure gaps are filled.
Let us hope that it is PLUS 10 degrees and raining for the duration of this colossal waste of taxpayers money. No way I would put any of these people up. I hope it rains and rains and rains. Then they can helicopter in some snow from hope or someplace @ ten thousnd an hour. Pray for warm weather.
Mattyc must be a hoot at parties.
If matty’s past predictions are any indication the games will be very successful.
Said Vancouver Olympics would be a flop but ended as the best winter games ever and the new benchmark for both summer and winter games.
Said the NDP would win “ALL 85 RIDINGS” and then disappeared for a month or two….Christy Clark kicked serious dipper butt and will reside in the Premier’s office for the next decade or more.
I should run for council. Let me tell you if I were on that council things would be run a lot different then what we get now. There would be no winter games and hence no line on your tax bill to pay for this garbage. I would fire ALL these over paid managers and shovel leaners and also roll back the taxes too. These jobs can be done by workers for half the money they get paid now. I saw it myself the other day there was 3 of em leaning on shovels, 2 trucks and 4 workers. This boondoggle here this winter games is nothing more then a waste of tax money and will be a big gong show. I hope it rains and stays warm and nobody volunteers to help run this thing. What a waste of money.
Please mattyc run for council. The entertainment value would be priceless.
Run Please Please Run…
Note to Walter Babicz…. village idiot will become an elected position starting in 2015 please make the necessary arrangements.
Like the games or not it will be both a boon and a massive cost to us
Boon
Injecting millions into the local economy through visitors, media, work everybody that comes here will be spending money , media centre needs to be built, venues built and maintained, stores will be visited, trinkets and memorabilia will be bought it all brings money in. In addition to volunteers tons of temporary jobs will be created
Prince George will get free national advertising every media outlet will garanteed focus on stuff to do around here and it will be free advertising for PG and businesses and whether you choose to believe it or not there is a lot to do in and around the city
Tourism will be a big thing too people will want to explore and see what PG is and its history and future this alone can be a huge payoff for the region
Costs
Overtime the city will spend huge amounts on overtime for cleanup, maintenance and emergency staffing costs(police, fire, ambulance)
Legacy venues, does the city maintain, reuse or destroy all three come with heavy costs
The risk of an economic depression after everyone leaves there is no question that huge amounts of money will be spent here before and during the games what about afterwards
Weather is an unknown variable and this alone can make or break everything
….
I for one am a big supporter of the games gives the north a chance to showcase itself and more importantly showcase Canadas future athletes
Could save more money with matty elected….he would take 25% less salary…….under the table…… for cash.
But keep it on the QT! Don’t want the taxman sniffing around:(
If you think the books are cooked at city haul now. Just imagine if our local resident left wing nut bar mattyc got on council.
“Hall”. Smart phone auto correct!!
I think “City Haul” is a Freudian slip ….. LOL
