MP Cullen Says USA Taking Sockeye
Monday, July 22, 2013 @ 3:42 PM
Terrace- Nathan Cullen MP, is calling on the government to do something about the fact that the Alaskans are still fishing for Sockeye salmon bound for the Skeena system, in spite of the fact that the returns are at a fifty year low.
Cullen says the Fisheries and Oceans have closed the season for British Columbians, while the Alaskans are at liberty to fish under the Canada, US agreement.
Cullen says, international boundaries , are meaningless to fish . It is simply unfair that Canadian fishers should have to shoulder all of the responsibility to act as conservationists , while the Americans can keep their nets in the water.

Kind of like NAFTA.
If the USA has any issues we bend over and take it for the agreement. When we have an issue we bend over and allow the USA to have their way.
Its not that were bending over, its that the U.S isn’t smart enough to use any conservation methods to preserve these fisheries. Alaska’s fishing practices are to consume the entire fishery until it is depleted and deal with it then.
The Canadian govt standing there and doing nothing IS “bending over”
They’ve been bending over for the senate and the USA far too long. Time to elect someone who allows their MP’s to think and speak for their constituents instead of towing the party line. Sick of it.
Stephen Harper, you are screwing up. Wake UP!
West coast.. You thnk that Harper knows we have a west coast ?
The whole eco-system is dieing because of Fukushima. In 20-years there will be no eco-system in the North Pacific and by then we will have a massively expanded nuclear industry….
The only salmon I’ll be eating would be Kokanee inland salmon, otherwise lake trout.
