One Hurt In Mill Blast

Monday, July 22, 2013 @ 5:17 PM

Emergency truck remains on-site at Carrier Forest Products after late afternoon explosion

Prince George, BC –  One person has suffered what are being described as minor injuries in an explosion at the Carrier Forest Products Facility located on the Willow Cale Forest Service Road.

Emergency crews remain on-scene, but are wrapping up their efforts after a small blast occurred just at 4:16pm this afternoon.

Prince George RCMP spokesperson, Constable Kristopher Martin, says the explosion was limited to a small area inside the facility.  "At this time, the fire has been extinguished and all employees have been accounted for.  One employee was transported to the University Hospital with minor injuries."

Martin says there is no reason to believe the explosion is suspicious at this time.  An investigation into the cause is now underway.

Wood dust was found to be the main cause of two deadly mill explosions – one at Lakeland Mills, the other at Lake Babine Forest Products in Burns Lake – that killed four people in 2012.

Just this morning, Lakeland held a ceremony to mark the start of construction of a new mill.

Hmmm how could there be an explosion without any fuel? Because all the mills are spotless now because of the 2 other tragedies! Right!?

I know your being sarcastic NoWay but maybe you should learn about what happened before you start spouting off save you some grief later

Like you said DEARTH he IS being sarcastic…

Yes your right NoWay! that’s what I was wondering too.

No fuel no boom Dearth! If these sawmills follow the new rules there shouldn’t be any more booms!

So NoWay you seem to have all the answers just what was the boom?

It would appear from the photo ,that the
boom was in the dust collection system.
There is even a smoking piece of the ducting in the middle of the photo.

Elementary

So how do you get rid of the dust?
NoWay & Jonnypg

From the picture it appears to have blown the blower pipe clean in half which takes dust and savings out of the mill. Usually these extraction systems are fitted with spark arresters to prevent explosions. It’s a good thing the whole system didn’t go up!
