Prince George, B.C.- It’s official, the Royal Baby has been named Prince George Alexander Louis. He will be known as Prince George of Cambridge.
So, how does it feel to live in the City which shares the name of the third in line to the throne?
Will it have any impact on you or your business?
Time to share your thoughts.

How about what The Prince will feel about his name being associated with a City that is the crime capital of Canada? They should have named him Prince Pothole….lol
Prince Pothole of George!!! How ’bout that? Has more of a ring to it than Prince George of Camebridge me thinks!!!!
Lots of fun and our city can use some positive attention. The whole pothole theme is getting really tired, and our roads are okay for the most part.
Ya ya and Prince Crime as well. Let the boring old insults continue as they surely will with the next posts, but it’s time we started to stop trashing ourselves. We have a good city and great life for most people who have chosen to live here and contribute to our community.
Having some fun and humour Lenny, lighten up a little….. Prince Crime of Gorge, I like that one to!
Guess we won’t be changing the name of the city now?
The non stop self-trash-talk is tiring to those of us who love our city and work hard to contribute in a positive way. It’s unimaginative, lazy, and does nothing other than to shoot ourselves in the foot…….over and over and over again.
I was born in Prince George Lenny. Learned to ride a bicycle on gravel roads, and trust me, they were in better shape than the pavement is today. I remember my friends and I riding our bikes up a goat trail (15th Ave.) to “100 steps”! Prince George is a dump, quit sugar coating it! A class of kindergarten kids could do a better job of running this City than most on City Council.
Have a great day wrecking your expensive vehicles on the goat trails!
Yawn.
Poor kid, when I hear George, all I can think about is George Costanza.

So glad they didn’t name the kid David!
That’s too funny Fuzzy
Heard Mayor Green on CBC being interviewed about the Prince George name issue … came off as a lame hypster .. stated that PG is the fast growing community in Canada , full of opportunities, etc, etc .. than talked about the fact that City of PG would be sending the new Prince a fruit basket to celebrate his name … IMHO it was totally inappropriate :(
No link at all, just a coincidence. Podunks in this town are so desperate to feel important that they will even clutch on to something this trivial. You know it’s true.
*flamesuit on*
Taxinapothole, why don’t you live somewhere else if you haven’t moved already? If you don’t live here anymore why are OUR potholes so important to you that they seem to rule your whole life?
i agree with Lenny, enough trashing PG. yeah, we have our problems in this city, like all cities do. maybe we even have a few more. i have opportunities to work elsewhere, further south, back east, but i CHOOSE to stay here. i live in a beautiful house in a great neighbourhood that I paid 210k for LAST YEAR. my kids can walk to school, neighbours are friendly, parks everywhere. i can walk to work, so can my wife. endless recreational activities… there are things I wish PG had more of, places to takes little kids in the winter being at the top of the list. my employer regularly brings up employees from the lower mainland/fraser valley for meetings and training. these people have usually never been here, just heard how bad it was. They’re constantly amazed at what we’ve got.
PG isn’t a dump. beauty is in the eye of the beholder. maybe taxinapothole is one of those people who sits inside their home, at their computer, wondering why the world seemsm like an unfriendly, ugly place. if you got out and helped make your community a better place, you’d realize how amazing this city and its people are. also, I swear I remember taxinapothole doesn’t even live here? is that right? why on earth would you waste your time constantly commenting on a website focussed on the city you disparage so much? i come to this website to get news on the community I live in because I care about this community. I hate eggplant, and you can bet that i’d never waste my time lurking and commenting on a website dedicated to that very thing I dislike so much.
Of course they would name the new prince after our hometown… why not. We are all little princes here after all :)
Careful Princegeorge, dont tick off Taxi. He claims he is using “humour” but last time I directed humour at him he lost it on me – hahaha
But really how much can one be enjoying life if you move 800 miles and have nothing better to do than talk about potholes in your old city? I kinda feel sorry for him. ;)
And yes, apparently 15th avenue as a gravel goat trail would be better than what we have now. Probably increase traffic flow eh? *eyeroll*
Yes you are right mikmak, I don’t live there now, but I would love to come back someday! I pay attention because I was born there in 1952. Paid a lot of taxes, so don’t tell me I don’t have a right to question how the City is run! It’s a fricken dump, and until you leave it for a few years and then come back you will not see that side of it. It’s kind of like some people’s houses and yards, one piece of dust or junk at a time and it slowly starts to build up until you have a dirty situation that will take years to clean up. Get your head out of the sand. Prince George talks about a PAC, winter games and the like? If my house was run down and filthy like that, I’d be embarrassed to invite anybody over!
Interceptor, yes I did lose it on you because I do believe you took a dirty shot at me that had NO humour in as far as I was concerned! Look back read what you said about me, was not funny!!
Yes the new Prince is only happy to be called “Prince Pothole” etc.. you can rest as sured that the name given to the new Prince George has nothing to do with this city and is only by an association. Only egotistical red neck Prince Georgians would think it the baby was named after this town.
And for those of you that don’t remember, The town of Prince George was a one horse dirt road , and unless you live where all the mayors in Prince George have lived, you will find that not much has changed.
The royals don’t care when individual families have a kid in this or any other city, so why the F should we care about their’s?
OH BOY! YOU HAD SEX! NOW YOU HAD A BABY! NO ONE ELSE EVER HAS! IT’S A MIRACLE!
Get on with real news stories.
“Only egotistical red neck Prince Georgians would think it the baby was named after this town”
Do these people actually exist? Just wondering . . .
“Paid a lot of taxes, so don’t tell me I don’t have a right to question how the City is run!”
That statement does not make sense taxi. It would be like saying that you had a say in what happens to a house you used to live in because you paid the bills there for years. The people who live there now and pay the bills make the decisions, you have absolutely no say in how things are done.
You may have an opinion but it is meaningless to those who still live here and send a check to city hall every July.
Maybe do a google search for News403 and comment on how the bucks are spent there:P
Am I allowed to comment on how my hometown is being run and/or how it’s developing? I figure it’s only fair since I have family roots in PG dating back to the early 1900’s ;)
Quit dumping on the place you still want to come back to one day! Make some helpful suggestions based on the wonderful living conditions you are enjoying now! What kind of pavement does your city use so that they don’t even know what a pothole looks like? What do they do for parking, how do they keep taxes low and how do they clear the snow as soon as it hits the ground?
Let’s hear some constructive input!
Okay, I’ll start :)
“What kind of pavement does your city use so that they don’t even know what a pothole looks like?”
No clue, but it looks like regular ole asphalt to me. The big difference here in Ottawa is that potholes don’t sit more than 1-2 days before they get filled. Crews are out all the time repairing roads and infrastructure projects are always happening.
“What do they do for parking?”
You pay big rates in high demand areas, especially during business hours. After peak hours, it’s pretty much free downtown. Pay parking does not detract people from going downtown, but of course there are also attractions to draw people down there.
“How do they clear the snow as soon as it hits the ground?”
Major routes are pre-salted and pre-treated when a snow storm is approaching so the snow never really gets a chance to accumulate. When there is allot of snow, plows are running virtually 24/7 to keep major routes clear, especially on main routes. On residential streets, you can wait up to 24 hours to have your road cleared . . . yes I said that right . . . 24 hours is typically all you wait if the snow accumulation is more than about 4-5 inches. On heavy dumps we’ll see the plows a couple times in 24 hours. The service standards are far superior to PG and they stick to them.
“how do they keep taxes low?”
They don’t. Taxes are far higher here than PG, but you also get the increased services to go along with it. It’s a trade-off I’ll gladly take.
I’m sure they didn’t give a s*&t about prince george, bc when they were naming him.
God, get over it miss mayor.
In regards to taxinapothole,I remember you saying you couldn’t wait to leave pig gorge.People like you don’t deserve to come back to this city that has given so much to Me,My family and My friends
Lets all remember that there in a Prince George County in Virginia, so I guess they are all celebrating to-night.
Further more. The original settlement in this area was Fort George, which was then named South Fort George, and then we had Central Fort George.
Prince George was a Johnny Come lately, who arrived a day late and a dollar short. Fact of the matter is the Railway chose the name Prince George without giving it much thought, and I doubt if anyone can really determine how they arrived at the name..
So if the Prince comes to town, we should give him a tour of Historic South Fort George, and then take him through Central Fort George and lastly on his way out of town we can take him through Prince George.
Have a nice day.
Just toured the Kootneys and southern Alberta. PG is home and I like it. I Have a place a Cluculz and totally appreciate what we have here. Pissoff taxintheasshole, your inbreeding is wearing thin.
Ah yes, Prince George County. Isn’t that where the crosses really were burning? Still waiting for that apology Hedy . . .
People like taxi are out to lunch. He hasn’t lived here for years. Fact is, the roads are in pretty good shape compared to previous years. Although there are a few bad spots (like anywhere), the City is catching up.
The most pathetic thing of the name is seeing the green catastrophe in the media spewing how good it will be for PG.. This lady has got to go and go asap
You are all welcome!! Glad I could initiate a good debate!
Have a great day!
