A Blow Up Mr PG Doll To Celebrate The Naming of a Royal Baby? Seriously?

Thursday, July 25, 2013 @ 3:45 AM
I apologize for perhaps not understanding the fine points of life. I tend to be more of a meat and potatoes sort of person and that is why I can’t see what all the fuss is about in the birth of a baby to the Duke and Duchess and the name they have chosen for the little fella’.

There has been more publicity over the event than when we had an election in BC. or for that matter, a serious explosion in Quebec.

Maybe it’s a way of society dealing with the bad things that happen around us every day.

Maybe it’s a way for the Brits to celebrate, given that it’s their future possible head of state with no real clout , but blowing up Mr PG for the event doesn’t really cut it for me.

Sticking a crib inside the front door of city hall with a view of collecting a few stuffed toys for some unfortunate families who had children and cannot afford all of the trappings that have been going on with the birth of a royal baby may be okay, but let’s just not stop there, how about a little box at the front door that people can drop coins into so that those families that are having a hard time paying their taxes can get some benefit.

There is, in my mind,  a multitude of things that we should be supporting in Prince George and while the Mayor could fire off a card of congratulations , one of several million that the Royal’s will receive, the rest of the  hooplah doesn’t do it for me.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Yup!

I agree

Double ditto. Sorry William, but your kid looks like me.

Agreed!!!

I agree.

They’re celebs so the birth is newsworthy
therefore the name is interesting especially in PG, but trying to capitalize on the birth and name of someone’s kid is crass, even kind of creepy.

I agree also, you can bet this child will not grow up hungry, while thousands born on the same day will.

One never knows.

If he grows up, he may grow up to be hungry for privacy.

I agree that the “blow up Mr. PG” is a little tacky, but probably a good use for all the “hot air” venting from the top floor of City Hall these days.

A little tacky? Yes. Other priorities? Sure.

But remember, for a short time, the national spotlight was on us and City administration had to scramble. A blow up Mr. PG and crib was all they could put together on short notice. ;-)

100% Agree. I personally couldn’t care less. But its news worthy as it is the royal family and all and people eat this crap up, just cannot understand why.

Ben you hit the nail on the head. I cannot believe our mayor is wasting city staff time and tax dollars on such a redicious thing. If anyone for one minute even thinks the Royals will make a visit to our city just because the child is named Prince George, get your head examined! As our taxes are still increasing, and services being reduced and our mayor pulls this stunt, unbelievable. Enjoy sitting as mayor Mrs. Green now because November 2014 you will not be our mayor anymore!!

There are two other jurisdictions in North America who are recognizing a connection, even though the other two are stretching it a bit further since the name Prince George in their case is for a Danish prince

“Prince George is big news in Prince George (Virginia, Maryland and Canada, that is)”

http://www.today.com/news/prince-george-welcomes-connection-prince-george-6C10736836?ocid=msnhp&pos=7

“Women around the world copy Duchess Kate’s style, and now, even the baby’s style (Kate wrapped Prince George in a blanket from American favorite Aden + Anais) is selling out.”

“If anyone for one minute even thinks the Royals will make a visit to our city just because the child is named Prince George, get your head examined!”

There may still be time for you to eat those words if they accept an invitation to open the Winter Games and dedicate an ice sculpture to the City’s 100th Anniversary.

She may even be pregnant again then …. and call the second child Rupert. ;-)

Yes, you read that right …. an ice sculpture ….

I wonder if my house value is going to go up drastically because all the thousands of people who want to move to Prince George because of the increased awareness of our city when people do google searches. I doubt it.

Remember the great press we got when Charles and Diana came to PG ? A British newspaper said PG was a town of loggers and tattoo parlours.

The reporter should know. Rumour has it the reporter got a new tattoo here by an ex logger who took a retraining course.

How else would he know?

We seem to have about 5 tattoo parlours in Prince George. They serve about 80,000 in the greater PG area.

According to the internet (which is always right …. right?) the cities in the USA with the most per hundred thousand population are:

1. Miami Beach – 24
2. Las Vegas – 16
3. Richmond – 14.5
4. Flint – 13
5. Portland, OR – 12
6. Austin – 7.5
7. San Francisco – 7
8. Honolulu – 6.5
9. Kansas City – 6
10. Los Angeles – 4 …….

So that puts us around those last two ….

So, as I said, that reporter must have been hanging around a couple, otherwise they would not have stuck out so much.

I wonder, if he ever visited Portland, OR what he said about tattoo parlours there, or even lumbermen since Oregon is a forestry state.

Flint Michigan, population-102,000
Portland Oregon, population-580,000
with a metropolitan pop of 2.2 million.

Flint must be one inked up little city.

we could have a namesake tax!!! For the prestige!!
