Prince George, BC – The civic leader who led a committee to help name Vanier Hall and the Four Seasons Pool, has had a city park named after him, posthumously.

Elroy Garden became known in the community as, ‘Mr Hospitality’.  It was Garden and Jack Heinrich who proposed the city set aside a property reserve to become home to the future University of Northern BC back in 1970.

Garden and his wife, Elda, moved to Prince George back in 1952 from Nova Scotia to build a life for their family.  The local businessman was elected to city council as an Alderman in 1965, serving during the mayoral tenures of Garvin Dezell and Harold Moffat.

Garden passed away in November of 2002.  Today, city officials, along with members of Garden’s family and the Heritage Commission, have unveiled a new park sign officially renaming Garden Park on Gillett Street, "Elroy Garden Park".
