Novel Idea To Gauge Library’s Needs
Prince George, BC – While the Prince George Public Library tracks the number of items heading out of the building on loan, staff are hoping to gain a ‘bigger picture view’ of just how those materials are being used…
Coined ‘Terms of Enjoyment’, the library will offer up Reading Diaries to users starting early next month. Beginning August 6th thru to the 10th, people will be able to pick up the diaries at either the Bob Harkins or Nechako Branches, they will then have the next 21 days to ‘journal’ details such the number of hours spent reading or watching the materials and whether they shared them with anyone else.
According to the library’s Communications Coordinator, Andrea Palmer, the information obtained from the reading diaries will be coupled with circulation statistics over the same period, "to discover how many hours of enjoyment our materials provide and how literacy can have a true ‘ripple effect’ in our community."
