Garage Sale Gives SPCA Facelift

Staff at Sandman on Central present SPCA with proceeds from community garage sale

Prince George, BC –  The SPCA will be getting a much-needed facelift thanks to a cheque for more than $10-thousand dollars from the Sandman Hotel…

Sandman staff and volunteers at the Central Avenue location hosted a two-day garage sale and silent auction in early June and just presented the North Cariboo branch of the SPCA with the proceeds of that effort.

Assistant Branch Manager, Sarah Thompson, says the cash injection will allow the SPCA to carry out some renos that will make the facility a more welcome and inviting place for people to come.  "Hopefully, resulting in more adoptions for the animals of Prince George," says Thompson.

In addition, the money will finally allow a dedicated space for the volunteers who come to help out at the shelter, as well as an education area for animal-themed camps and workshops for local kids.

Thompson says the final remainder will be used to create some new outdoor space for the cats and dogs in the SPCA’s care.

I thought the North Cariboo branch would be Quesnel.

gus … there you go, another opportunity to learn something new ;-)

this is a nice good news story … The Sandman organization has been fairly diligent about “community service” over the years if my dimming memory is serving me correctly … now if we could just get those credit card companies to “share” …

I understand that there will be a decision about handed down this week about merchants objecting to the high charges they have to pay to all the “specialty” credit cards that are out there.

I believe they are proposing to be given the right to refuse such credit cards.

I think if an individual wants to donate to a BCSPCA credit card by having a percentage taken off at purchase, that should be their choice. At the same time they should know how much is actually donated rather than being skimmed off by processors along the way.

I do not understand why people simply do not donate at source and remove some of those additional administrative costs (if there are any).

It will be an interesting position.

I think the USA has an interesting case. 10% of gasoline if you use cash or a debit card. They are just doing it and waiting for a federal court to render a decision.

Yes, I have learned I need to correct my atlas and expand the borders of the Cariboo to include PG … ;-)
