Male Charged After Officer Hit with Bear Spray

Prince George, B.C. – A Prince George RCMP officer was hit with a blast of bear spray last night as he tried to arrest a suspect who was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The suspect is also wanted in connection with a recent assault.
According to the RCMP, a General Duty Officer spotted the wanted male on Pine Street around 9 last evening.
The suspect took off on foot when the officer identified himself and ordered the male to stop.
The officer ran after him, but the suspect suddenly turned and is alleged to have sprayed the officer with what is believed to be bear spray.
The officer called for assistance, the area was cordoned off and the suspect was found hiding on the 1400 block of Strathcona. Although the male once again tried to flee, he was apprehended.
22 year old Terence Bertel Swanson of Prince George, ( formerly from the Fort Fraser area) is set to appear in court today. He is facing a string of charges:
· Assaulting a Peace Officer
· Carrying a Concealed Weapon
· Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
· Obstructing a Peace Officer
· Assault with a Weapon
· Assault with a Weapon (original July 29th, 2013 offence)
These charges are in addition to November 2012 Possession of a Dangerous Weapon charge.
The officer was treated for the spray, and was able to complete his shift.
