Prince George, B.C. – Heading into the long weekend, comes word of an open fire ban in the southern areas of the Prince George fire centre. The fire danger rating in southern sections of the Prince George Fire Centre is high to extreme and is expected to increase over the long weekend.
Since April 1, 2013 humans have caused over half of the 142 fires in the Prince George Fire Centre.
The prohibition is in effect until September 15th or unless notified otherwise.
Basically, the area covered by the prohibition is from about Fraser Lake to south east of Valemount and from Hixon to nearly Mackenzie and the following activities are NOT allowed:
· no open burning of any waste, slash or other materials,
· Stubble or grass fires of any size over any area
· The use of fireworks or burning barrels of any size or description
· The use of tiki torches.
Campfires are ok, as long as they are no larger than ½ meter by ½ meter.
That is not the case in the Coastal, Kamloops or Cariboo Fire Centres where campfires are now banned.

I don’t get it. We’ve had extremely dry weather, and I love a campfire as much as anyone, BUT, fools are among us, just hope there’s not a human caused fire out there this weekend.
I am glad we can still have our campfire this weekend. Enjoy the long weekend!
