Prince George, B.C. – Huble Homestead Days are on this B.C. Day weekend and coupled with the weather provide a great outing for the family.
Parents of youngsters might try to explain what it was like living in pioneering times while those with the pioneering spirit may wonder in amazement at how much things have changed since then.
Homestead Days include old fashioned contests, games for kids and adults, heritage demonstrations, entertainment, stories, races, prizes and more. There’s even a Box Lunch Auction and Social (above). The way it was set up for the original box lunch auctions, the winning bidder not only got the lunch, but the woman who made it joined him for lunch as well. These days you have to supply your own woman. The box lunches include sandwiches, salads, vegetables, fruits, goodies and drinks.
There’s plenty more to do as Homestead Days continues from 10 am to 4pm today. You can pull out the shoes and head to the horseshoe pits as these folks did. He showed off his form however she topped that with style.
If a game of “shoes” isn’t your thing, you can watch a craftsman at work at one end of the property or listen to the ladies “spin a yarn” at the other.

And there is plenty of shopping for young and old at the General Store. Mom and dad may be wanting to pick up some groceries and dry goods to stock up the shelves in the pantry at home, but for the youngsters one thing is clear…..
It’s the candy counter without a doubt.
