Funding Available to Participate in Murray River Coal Mine Environmental Assessment

Wednesday, August 7, 2013 @ 3:52 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Environmental Assessment process for the proposed Murray River underground coalmine is underway, and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is making funding available for public and Aboriginal participation in the process.

HD mining is proposing an underground coal mine about 12.5 km southwest of Tumbler Ridge. This mine, if approved, would produce 6 million tonnes of metallurgical coal each year over a 31 year mine lifespan. The coal would be mined  using  the “long wall” mining technique.

This is the same project which received much attention over the hiring of temporary foreign workers from China.

Eligible groups or individuals may qualify for funding to allow their participation in upcoming steps of the environmental assessment process.

Applications received by September 6, 2013 will be considered. Recipients and the amounts of funding allocated will be announced at a later date.

For more information on how to apply to for funding, contact the Participant Funding Program by writing to PFP.PAFP@ceaa-acee.gc.ca or by calling 1-866-582-1884.
