The fire was first reported late yesterday afternoon and the fire grew rapidly says B.C. Wildfire Management spokesperson for the Prince George Fire Centre, Dustin Eno. “We had multiple air tankers working the fire late yesterday and heavy equipment arrived overnight to work the scene today”. Eno says the fire is now estimated to be about 170 hectares in size.

Eno says all campsites in the area were checked and at least two campers were evacuated from the area, the Wildfire Branch is confident anyone who was   in the immediate area, has been accounted for.

Although the cause of the fire has not been determined, Eno says  there was lightning in the area at the time the fire was reported.

Meantime,  the Stony Lake fire, east of Hixon,   remains at about 30 hectares. “That fire hasn’t seen any signs of growth” says Eno “But the terrain is making it difficult to fully control the fire.”

That fire is being worked by one 20 person crew and a helicopter today.
