Prince Rupert, B.C. – There are now four Super Post Panamax container cranes at the Port of Prince Rupert’s Fairview Terminal.
The new crane will be offloaded today, having just arrived from Shanghai China.
Like the three other cranes at the Fairview terminal, the new one weighs over 1,800 tonnes and has a 22 container reach.
"The arrival of a fourth crane for our container operations will further enhance our ability to quickly and efficiently turn around container vessels at Fairview Terminal” says Mark Schepp, Senior Vice President of Maher Terminals which operates the terminal.
Since opening in 2007, Fairview Container Terminal has handled over 1.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Last month the Journal of Commerce recognized the Port of Prince Rupert as having the second-highest productivity score in the Americas, based on 2012 container figures.

Way to go Prince Rupert.
Wouldn’t want to be on that boat in a storm..
Good future for Prince Rupert (with all the expantion going on).
The port of Prince Rupert is long term plan is to be the second largest container terminal on the west coast currently Los Angeles is the largest at just over 5 million containers handled per yr and Hongcouver is the second largest at 2.25 million containers handled.
If all container developments go through by 2028 Prince Rupert could potentially handle 2.7 million a year currently it handles just under 800,000 per yr
