Rides, Rabbits and Russets Among BCNE Features

Prince George, B.C.- It is the first edition of the BC Northern Exhibition, or 101st edition of the PG X under a new name. However you want to look at it, it has something for everyone.
From the bumper cars to the Fireball, the screams could be heard throughout the midway area. The carney games are already seeing folks walk away with “prizes” and the ribbons have been handed out to the home crafts and horticultural entrant winners.

This years edition of the exhibition is by far the worst I’ve seen during my 45 years in PG. Most everything has been cut back from previous years. The entertainment stage had a few chairs set out in the full sun. No shade, very few exhibits and not a lot offered for the admission and parking charges. I also find $3.00 for a bottle of Kirkland water to be just a little overpriced since you can buy a flat of 35 at Costco for just over $4.00. I definitely feel ripped off and will not be attending again anytime in the future.
Won’t be going at all. At a cost of $50 just for two adults and 2 children to walk through the gate and another $80 on two ride armbands is a little much. That’s not counting the cost of food or anything else. I don’t understand how they can charge significantly more than the PNE and Playland in Vancouver does for far less than you’d get down there.
BNCE
Adult admissions x 2 = $30
Child admissions x 2 = $20
Childrens ride armband x 2 = $80
PNE
Adult Admissions x 2 = $32
Child Admissions x 2 = FREE
Childrens ride armband x 2 = $47.50
BCNE Total = $130
PNE Total = $79.50
Not to mention the PNE also has even lower prices if you purchase online.
I agree with the costs being very high to attend the fair for a day. Yet, every year they seem to struggle financially. Yes, the kins cost money to use, but the costs should easily be covered by the exhibitors.
Getting sued probably didn’t help this not for profit. Key word there is NOT FOR PROFIT. Prices are rising everywhere, and government is cutting out NFP’s lefts tight and center. Undoubtably the PNE gets so much support from its city/ area, they can offer lower prices thanks to sponsors and volunteers. I heard our city mayor won’t even show up for the opening ceremony that she can attend for free. How pathetic. Show some support for a locally driven event, these are becoming rareities.

Seems that the Mayor gets slammed for photo-ops, and when she doesn’t attend photo-ops. Sometimes, you just can’t win.
And I agree with the above posters, the last few times I went, I ended up feeling ripped off. Won’t be going this year.
