Smoke May Reduce Visibility On Hwy 16 East
Prince George, BC – Firefighting crews worked quickly this afternoon after a wildfire broke out alongside Highway 16 East, near the commercial vehicle weigh scales in Tete Jaune Cache…
Prince George Fire Centre Information Officer, Erin Catherall, says the blaze was touched off when a falling tree brought down a power line. Catherall says, "We did have air tankers action the fire, as well as helicopters bucketing, and one initial attack crew." She says the fire is now fully contained and one 10-person crew will be on-site tomorrow to mop up.
While the Ministry of Transportation reported the highway was closed in both directions for a couple of hours, Catherall says it was opened to single lane alternating traffic with flaggers on-site while BC Hydro worked to de-activate the power line.
The fire information officer is advising motorists travelling through the area to be extra cautious, as smoke may hamper visibility in the area.
