happy friday to all :)

i have guests visiting right now, and we were discussing the good ol’ days, and when it came to some old features of the city my guests were having trouble recalling a few things that i believe i do. so, i was hoping to get a little reinforcement from our online circle here to affirm my memory lest my guests continue to consider me to be suffering from delusions :)

the issue at hand being my recollection of a small convenience store on the west side of the old fraser bridge, that is the grand trunk rail bridge from 1910, and on the south side of the road/street/boulevard, the side closest to the river. i recall it last being called ‘1/2 wit henry and crazy moe’s’ and prior possibly being called ‘riverside grocery’ or something similar.

i believe it went out of business about 1980.

any recollections or details would be much appreciated.

you are correct, also there was a small trailer court

Went to Fortis BC offices on 18th ave. yesterday to ask them a question about my gas line the secretary told me that they couldn’t help me as I had to phone the number on a card she handed me then they would answer my question.

Got home dialled the number was put on hold for 57 minutes after going through the automated crap. I finally got ahold of a service rep asked him my question and he put me on hold and then connection was lost. Called bak spent a further 25 minutes on hold finally got through and again asked my question finally got an answer and an appointment for service.

I went through basically 3 hrs of crap just so I could have the Fortisbc crew here to come out and service my meter which had been damaged by them when they replaced some parts last week.

Talk about inefficiency

I think this week will be remembered in history as the defining turning point in the downward spiral of Obama’s foreign policy and presidency.

He backed the Arab spring in Libya with missiles and arms to AQ related groups, that took the road show to Syria, which is a total debacle, and saw his middle man the ambassador assassinated. Putin puts a line in the sand at Syria and Obama has no answer and backs down.

Obama and the global matrix push to have Iran stop their nuclear program. Putin puts a line in the sand, and Obama talks about the reset in relations.

Then Putin signs into law a bill that had unanimous support from their legislature to outlaw advertising sexuality to children… and Obama uses this to cancel head of state relations with Russia, probably the country most critical to current global geo-political events at a time when everything can quickly unravel.

So now more important than discussing the on going civil war in Syria, the nuclear program in Iran, and a host of other issues that should be discussed face to face to find the necessary needed compromise… we instead have the rainbow pride determining geo-political relations. The priorities seem mixed up here and not helpful IMO.

Then we have the CBC running with this destructive fundamentalist agenda taking one side and demonizing Russia in a way that makes Canada look petty. The call in show Cross Country Checkup last weekend only took calls from one side of the debate (not a single alternate view call), and the CBC web site moderates opposing views from the discussion thread through new changes that are designed to hide the effects of moderation on the discussion.

I say this because I find it interesting how controlled the message as well as the popular view is controlled on an issue like this… that is clearly public policy as a way to shame and demonize Russia as punishment. Government policy backed up by a controlling media is a harbinger of bad things to come… we see it more and more on various issues (relating to money and bankers especially)… and it undermines the ability for a democracy to function and generate good policy.

It makes the west look weak if this is how we conduct international relations and Obama has to cancel meetings with Putin with so many issues critical to his legacy on the table. All sides of the debate should be openly discussed and only then will we start to see responsible policy IMO. I think the Rubicon has been passed for Obama though and his failure as president is now cooked in.

In the future one can assume the media will be tailor made for the individual. The way privacy has gone… it isn’t a stretch to see how media empires can now what you need to know, and what you should know, and limit what access you have to knowledge and views based on the game theory of where you should be politically. It seems to be the future for media if its not here already.

Imagine coming on to OP250 logged in as one person and seeing one set of news stories on the home page, and another person logs in to read an entirely different home page… even the views seen being moderated by the editor as to what they feel you should be exposed to in order to bring you in line. Ludicrous you say. We can be thankful OP250 doesn’t do this (yet), but its already here and its a growing trend elsewhere.

Google yesterday admitted they read your Gmail emails to tailor their content to you. They as much admitted you have no expectation of privacy using Gmail. I feel its the first step in indoctrination directed news services and its here already….

Which is why curiosity to learn on ones own should be the priority in any education IMO. The ability to critically question and self determine based on ones own ethos.

Speaking of media, I went to the Citizen to cut back on my paper to Thursday to Saturday. I was told I can’t and would have to cancel my subscription. Says I can change it to Thursday only. I a small city as ours, is it so difficult???

eagleone, while you repeatedly qualify your statements as ‘your opinion’, i find your distillation of current events, on subjects that i find so droll that i am too often delinquent in actually updating myself to, so very pure and palatable i am tempted to take them as gospel.
i feel i must say, thank you. thank you very much. my curiosity is cured for the time being :)

Thanks a_BC. I leave myself open to being wrong, but figure if I put it out there at least people can make up their own minds with a more open view… or correct me when I’m off base.

If one wanted to go down the rabbit hole a little further on the selective media reporting, one would have to look no further than the Trans Pacific Partnership to peak ones curiosity.

Not a word of it in our media. A central plank to Harpers legacy of ‘enlightened sovereignty’. Its called a trade agreement, but only 5 chapters of 29 are on trade… all the others are about protecting multinational corporations above national regulations and sovereignty. Replacing the Supreme Court of Canada with what is called the “Investor-State Dispute Resolution” system for settling multinational claims against sovereign Canadian regulations and laws for anything beyond the ‘international standard’. Essentially the end of democracy… if ratified even a new Canadian government could not repeal the TPP as it requires the approval of all member countries for any one member country to leave.

Internet freedom would be gone, bankster would have enshrined consumer/investment banks with transaction taxes illegal and no limits on monopoly sized to big to fail banks, public services like municipal water would be open to foreign ownership, drug pattens would be good for 120 years, the international standard for food safety and pesticide usage (ie lowest common denominator), and the loss of national ability to regulate energy markets.

Kind of like a constitution for the multinational corporations with supremacy over national constitutions… the enlightened sovereignty that Harper talks about.

For Harper he wants this signed and in place by this fall… if BC rejects the Gateway Pipeline project, then the BC government could then be sued through the TPP foreign three person court for lost revenue as a result of BC rejecting the project.

A lose lose proposition for any government that tries to exercise sovereignty over international investments and trade.

And not a word about it in our corporate consolidated main stream media. Controlling the issues you need to know about on a need to know basis is how they are operating.

And don’t forget the anti gay law Eagleone. Are folks actually going to boycott the Olympics over this?

Eagleone. What does Harper have to gain by this legacy of enlightened sovereignty.??

One would assume that a Politician born in Calgary, raised in Ontario, married with Children, would have the interests of the Country first and foremost, and certainly the interests of his children, and his children’s children uppermost in his mind over the long haul. What does he stand to gain.

Government supporting Corporations or Multi National Corporations is nothing new. It has been going on forever.

I agree with some of your points, however most of them have been articulated by Nohm Chomsky over the years, and very few people ever take the time to read what he has to say about big Government, the News Media, and Multi National Corporations.

I refuse to believe that Harper (a small time Politician in a small time Country) is actually part of the conspiracy. It would be interesting to see what his options are.

The real problem here, is the refusal of the everyday citizen to get off their collective butts, and do something about all the freedoms which are being slowly taken away from them. That’s the problem, bone lazy Canadians, sitting in front of TV’s and computers, waxing philosophically about nothing in particular, and bitching about the Government without doing anything about it.

We are our own worst enemy.

I took a small load of drywall to the dump last month; it cost me about $12 to dump it. Now, I don’t mind paying the fee to dispose of some refuse that is more difficult to get rid of then others but what really confused me was that I was told to dump it in bin 3 with the rest of the household garbage. What’s the point of the extra fee? There’s no way they’re going to separate my drywall from the rest of the garbage in that bin.

Nice write up Eagleone. The more we are connected to our electronic devices the more we are subjected to a artificial reality.

Stories and events that are tailored to influence the masses in a way to manipulate the sense’s of the viewers. Outfoxed was a decent documentary about a couple of Fox employee whistle blowers. Even Hollywood has made movies about this, Wag the Dog, the premise behind V for Vendetta is based on the government controlling media to send a mantra of control. And then there is my favourite The Network. It’s hard to believe how applicable this is 37 years later. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WINDtlPXmmE

Its actually legal to be gay in Russia.

The new law makes it illegal to advertise sexuality to children, which most people would support. That is why the law had 100% support in the Russian Duma.

The western media version of the law is that it is illegal to be gay in Russia, and therefor the Olympics should be moved to another city or boycotted, and Obama had to cancel his planned meeting with Putin to punish Russia.

—–
Here is what Article 6.21 of the Code of the Russian Federation on Administrative Offenses actually says:

Propaganda is the act of distributing information among minors that 1) is aimed at the creating nontraditional sexual attitudes, 2) makes nontraditional sexual relations attractive, 3) equates the social value of traditional and nontraditional sexual relations, or 4) creates an interest in nontraditional sexual relations.

—————

The key terms are ‘propaganda’… what does it constitute,… and ‘nontraditional sexual relations’… does this mean polygamy (which is also illegal in the west), or transgender, or sex with a minor. The argument is the definition of these terms is vague and therefor taken in its worst interpretation could one day constitute discrimination against the gay lifestyle through intimidation.

The hypothetical worst case scenario of the definition of these terms some would say is enough to cancel the Olympics and US Russian relations. I think they are wrong and making up hypothetical scenarios to justify these actions is a dangerous precedent. I think the intent of the law is to outlaw Pride parades where children can see sexual indoctrination in a public space. Russia being a sovereign country they should have that right I would think.

Its tough to say how this will effect the Olympics now that countries like Canada plan to flout the new Russian law to test it bring politics into the games.

Good points Palopu. I wish I had the answers too. I would love to hear what Harper has to say about that. Its a contradiction for sure of who he was prior to becoming PM.

I love conspiracy theories and theorists …..

I suspect that stone aged tribes spoke or grunted or danced about them not that long after they made connection with foreign tribes …..

No wait …. I think they actually did that within their own families and tribes even before that outside contact.

But never has such thinking been able to span the entire globe till the last century and never has it grown so fast till much of the world has become connected to the tribal drums by the internet.

Only2c that is excellent. Great find. Thanks. I’ll need to put that show on my watch list.

Conspiracy, coincidence, or just plain reality… time will tell. :)

Are you a dog owner that just sits there with your head up your butt while your little darlins are outside barking theirs off for no reason whatsoever and disturbing your neighbors right to peace and quiet in the neighborhood?

Either remove your head and shut your dogs up or leave your head where it is and inhale very very hard.

Don’t you think it’s time to have some consideration for your neightbors?

No conspiricies just proof – This was almost 30 years ago ;)

Ridiculous…… This all suggests that being gay is a club or something and the lgbt community is recruiting.. When will people realize being gay is something your born with and not something you sign up for or join.

Thank you vocer. I agree.

But then again, as eagleone knows, we are all conspirators and have lost the ability to think for ourselves because big brother, Obama, a president of another foreign country, is controlling the Canadian and world media and monitoring our conversations. ;-)

As they used to say in the old days, if you want a fresh look at world political thinking and games, read the Zurich paper.

Just checked out the new site “canadamissing.ca” stunning to see the number of missing persons right across Canada. Some we have heard of are not on the list..including some prominent Prince George residents.I wonder why?

Dragonmaster. I agree that barking dogs are a real problem.

Seems the owners are either deaf, or stupid, because they never seem to do anything about it.

I doubt very much if they actually look at this site, or read anything, so I doubt if they will get your message. However one can hope.

I am ready to try calling those bylaw people on my neighbors dogs, always barking at nothing and howling at sirens. the people are home but cant be bothered to tell their dogs to shut up! 3 dogs that never get walked or played with, its so sad. I cant think of anything else to do? I just want some peace and quiet! for once!

Throw them some food Boudica!

Fall is coming.

Vocer so you are okay with taking kids to a peeler bar?

Eagleone your comments on Obama nailed it. Man of no substance in only because of the feel good vote, our version Trudeau. Scary the general ignorance of world affairs by the general population.

I also agree with your comments on the media in the CFIS blog. With the media controlled by very few conglomerates only a very narrow range of view ever gets out, very controlling. As for the CBC every time I listen in the song lyrics “flowers in my hair” always comes to mind.

I do not agree with your views on Harper on enlightened sovereignty, it is the UN and their plan on one world government run by them is the danger one example using the AGW scam to promote wealth redistribution.

And a peeler bar and homosexuality in the context of minors has what to do with each other?

Peeling is something little children do naturally …. until they are taught or learn by themselves that peeling in public is not something normally done.

That is quite the opposite of homosexuality.

Yes, I remember the corner store very well and the trailor court as well….many memories of the store!

Here is an interesting read on Obama

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2013/08/its-official-obama-has-surpassed-jimmy-carter.php

Remember, powerlineblog.com is part of the conspiracy …..

I find the media blitz by the big 3 phone companies nauseating. At the first sign of serious competition, they wrap themselves in the Canadian flag, play the big foreign boogeyman card and expect their customers, who have been gouged forever to fall in line.
They have built their networks, shielded from competition by regulation, on the backs of customers. They should be embarrassed by these adds.

Seems Powerex a subsidiary of BC Hydro agreed to pay California $750 Million to settle their energy dispute.

$273 Million in cash, and $447 Million in a utilities credit. Of course Powerex claims that it is innocent of any wrong doing, however paying out the $750 Million seems to be the smartest way out of the situation.

There are a lot of pro’s and con’s to this issue, however it appears that Powerex screwed up, and they and Hydro have once again cost us a fortune.

BC Hydro really needs to be cleaned up, reorganized.

Speaking of media bias (and definitely going outside of 250 area) – what are the thoughts on the news in Egypt? Who is right and who is wrong (assuming either side could be right)?

the military ousted the first duly elected president in decades after less than one year in office.

I believe that is known as a coup.
Now, his supporters are not backing down, and the situation is escalating. It is still an ethnic/religion confrontation.

it seems that the middle east cannot govern without bloodshed.

Duly elected maybe but fundamental Islam is not what the people wanted. That is why the military stepped in. Ask yourself why Christians are being attacked in this uprising.

I see Todd Whitcomb is still beating the drum about C02 is bad but never offers up any empirical proof except he said she said. He should review the scientific method.

It is still an ethnic/religion confrontation.

“it seems that the middle east cannot govern without bloodshed.”

The middle east is not the only area that is so inclined to settle its religious affairs.

Tito held Jugoslavia together

Saddam held Iraq together

The Shah held Iran together

Nasser held Egypt together

And those are not the only ones.

Seems strong dictators have some advantage sometimes.

Then there is Big Daddy, Idi Amin ….. and how about Somalia …..

We could also go back to Israel under the British ….. they were no longer in the prime of their benevolent dictatorial ways …. in fact, much of Africa has the Brits and French to thank for their problems today ….. and at the tip the Brits and Dutch.

Whether it is social or religious ideology, most of the world has not yet figured out to get along with neighbours of different persuasion ….. and now we get sexuality involved as well ….. as if we did not have enough differences already.

The interesting thing about homosexuality is.. It has been witnessed in hundreds of species of animals, yet only condemned by some humans..yet animals ave been around a lot longer than humans.

As usual, all your points are on the mark, Gus.
However, you are neglecting a very strong reason for conflict, and that is territory. whether it be land area for industry and residences, water access, or arable land. Often countries invade or annex other lands to harvest natural resources like Afghanistan crude.

Add in the fact that today, all areas are occupied, and we have the recipe for wars.

As to the Egyptian situation specifically, it is primarily an ethnic dispute. The Coptic Christians don’ want Islamic rule, the Muslims don’t want any other religious persuasion in “their” country, and the other ethnicities are caught in the middle of the 5h!t.

Sadly, a great deal of technological advances through the ages has been from the Muslim world. Up until about 1200 A.D. (not accurate but close), the Muslims owned everything to the Spanish/Portuguese Atlantic coast. The rise of the Normans and the Saxons that were strongly Christian pushed Islam out of western Europe.

Here is the report that Council received regarding the Canada Games Plaza … shows some more proposed details.

What we see today as Islam is not what was. The Qur’an actually begins with Moses.

As someone pointed out to me a little while ago, we always seem to forget about China …… it was sitting there virtually all by itself for a couple of thousand years doing quite well, thank you.

Ah yes religion!

Isn’t it awesome?

Islam today is not what it was in the past. Loki are you a history rewriter?

One million people disappeared under Saddam and he did invade Iran and Kuwait remember. Just how did these regimes bring so called stability?

Hydro paying California 750 million BS. The courts showed hydro was innocent also California was the cause of their own folly and went out to blame others. To me this smells of the 58 billon dollar IPP rip-off to BC power users. I think this taxpayer payoff is so the IPP’s can have better access to Califonia. Ipp’s are a hodge podge of liberal supporters and ex Hydro managers. This is far far bigger than the BCR ripoff.

Surprising the big bank, big oil criticisers on this site do not touch this huge multi billion ripoff.

The past month and a half I have been taking my 7 year old to swimming lessons at both our local pools. On the instances where where we go to the Four Season’s, It is an adventure and not a [pleasant one. I have been hit up for money, harassed by the resident people who hang out on the lawns there, threatened for my cell phone, sworn at,spat at and all while We are parking my car and we walk to the stairs to get to to the pool. Today, when parking my car, the bush beside my hanicap parking space was full of used condoms, needles and other stuff. I told the clerk at the pool and it was cleaned up by the time we got back to the car. I commend them for that. We are supposed to be showcasing downtown yet I see no improvements on policing and overall safety.I love Prince George but am tired of feeling scared when trying to enjoy a simple activity with my daughter.

There is a big difference between the latter half of the last century and precolonial history.
I am not rewriting anything. I have been actually looking up history, and you should to.
There have been tyrants throughout history.
Most did not last long.

@ Seamut… Vocer so you are okay with taking kids to a peeler bar?

Not sure how you equate the two. Also my comment does not relate to what I think children should see or not see. I don’t think young children should be subject to watching flamboyant gay people in a parade anymore than slutty Halloween costumed straight people in the sense of what’s appropriate. My point was simply that the russian policy suggests that people (children) should not be indoctrinated or recruited into a gay lifestyle when a educated person would know its not something you chose but are born with..

I should add that by flamboyant, I mean scantily dressed leather and chained clad gay parade goer’s

The Koran began with the Prophet Mohammed. It is said that it was dictated to him by the Archangel Gabriel. The Koran connects to previous historical events, Judaism and certain people(including Moses, the prophets, etc.) much like Christianity does. That is also why Jerusalem is claimed by three religions.

“BC Hydro really needs to be cleaned up, reorganized.”

Good idea! This settlement is part of the cleanup of the mess the NDP got us in during their reign in B.C. Can’t blame the present government for this one if and when your hydro bill goes up!

So then like all other religions its made up of fictional characters. My made up guy is better than your made up guy. When you realize how many millions of people, blindly follow religions it becomes very scarey.

Prince George. There is a lot of mess to go around. The Liberals can take the blame for the BC Transmission Corp flip flop that cost us $65 Million. Plus the smart meters, plus the IPP’s. That will cost us billions.

Cherry picking blame is an old political ploy, however most people can see through it in a New York minute.

Have a nice day.

The fiberals got us into this IPP ripoff not the NDP. Hey how’s that carbon tax scam working for ya?

What happened to the 450 million California owes us? What a flagrant payoff for the IPP’s.

Yup the liberals are great at using tax payer money to pay off their troubles.
