Swipe Card Approved for Electoral Area A

Thursday, August 15, 2013 @ 5:26 PM
Prince George, B.C.-  When the new fee comes into effect for the Foothills Landfill on September 1st, residents from Electoral Area A, Salmon River-Lakes will have a swipe card to ensure they have free access.

The swipe card would be similar to that issued to residents of Electoral Area C for access to the Vanway Transfer Station. The swipe card for Electoral Area A, Salmon River-Lakes residents is being made available because they are not serviced by a Transfer Station and have no reasonable access to waste disposal other than at the Foothills landfill.

As of September 1st,   there will be a minimum charge  of $6.00 for a load of garbage ( less than 100 kg) but that minimum rate will be doubled if the load has not been secured.

2012 was a very busy one at Foothills, with 111,297 tonnes of material handled.
Just under 32 thousand tonnes was diverted through recycling, onsite use as cover material, or as compost, so that meant about 80 thousand tonnes ended up being buried at the Foothills site.

As for yard and garden waste,   Foothills received 5,720 tonnes of it, and sold 1,880 cubic metres of composted material.

It is now estimated the lifespan of the Foothills Landfill will be extend beyond 2027.

I’ll try and fool them with my Tim card and see what happens.

I don’t know about this…There’s only a couple of weeks to go; I wonder if they’ll get those cards out by then. Snivel servants aren’t known for their efficiency. :)

Lot of back roads on the hart

Still kinda vague as to who will get the cards

Look for a lay-offs as usage decreases. This will equate to increased savings to the taxpayer.

Whats vague about “Electoral area A”?
heres a map:
