Mackenzie, B.C.- Construction on the Conifex Bio-energy facility in Mackenzie could start again soon.
Construction of the project had been temporarily suspended in November of last year. Since that time a new budget for the project has been developed. This budget pegs the overall cost of the project at $98 million, which includes a contingency amount of $6 million. That budget is $18 million more than the initial price tag for the project.
The company says there are three key elements responsible for the increase:
$5 million for increasing the scope of the project
$3 million for project delays
$10 million for contract restructuring.
The company is now working on securing construction and long-term financing.
The power generation plant is expected to start commercial operations in the third quarter of 2014.
Comments
What no comments on the increased costs! If it was Hydro building this and reported increased costs the comments would be endless.
Being called bio energy which is the trendy greenie feel good term for a wood burning steam generating plant just how much public money does that term attract.
How much is Hydro forced to pay for the power? Don’t forget contracts to IPP’s are costing us over 54 billion in the next 30 years.
Lots of people making good coin of your power bill.
This will be a good project for sustainability of operations, and the value it generates will be good paying local long term stable jobs.
