400 Kms in One Day….All In the Name of Battling Cancer

Friday, August 16, 2013 @ 4:00 AM
Prince George, B.C.- This hour, 6 cyclists from Prince George will start a gruelling ride from Jasper to Prince George. It is a ride that will see them cover about 400 kms of   road , so it has been called North 400.

“It is an independent fundraising event for the Cops for Cancer Tour de North” says Erin Reynolds, one of the volunteers with North 400 and a coordinator of the Tour de North.

Each of the 6 riders on the North 400 had to raise at least $500 dollars in order to take part in today’s ride. They hope to collect more donations along the way.

“The Tour de North riders are primarily from the RCMP, and there is very little opportunity for members of the public to be involved in such a challenging ride” says Reynolds. She says it is not uncommon during the Tour de North stops in various communities, for members of the public to ask how they can be part of the Tour de North team. “This ride, ( North 400) is something the North needs it brings b people together who love cycling and it is a great challenge” adds Reynolds.

This is the inaugural ride of the North 400, and Reynolds is hoping to “grow” the event saying it could become a premiere cycling event for cycling enthusiasts.

The 6 riders making the trip today are:
·        David Lee
·        Derek Ingram
·        Matthew Thomson
·        Dan Bedard
·        Andrew Lukaris
·        Dakota Stone.

The riders hope to arrive at Prince George City Hall between 9 and 10 tonight.
