The Man Behind Mantracker Pulls Into Town

Prince George, B.C. – He may be gone from the popular television show he starred in but the man known as the Mantracker certainly isn’t forgotten, at least not in these parts.

Terry Grant starred on the reality TV show for six years before that run came to an end a couple of years ago, the result of a battle over salary that left some bad blood between Grant and the show’s producer.

Grant was at Books and Company on Sunday for a book signing and based on the turnout you’d have to say he is as popular as ever with his fans. That includes men, women, dads, moms, girls and boys. Why one 35 to 40ish (allright, we’ll say 29) female fan was swooning and giggling quite profusely as she sauntered up alongside the Alberta cowboy to have her picture taken with him. “You know he’s whispering sweet nothings in my ear”, she chuckled, to which Grant replied “you’d better talk to your husband about that.”

Grant comes across as a pretty down-to-earth good guy. He was pleased to sign copies of his book and returned the thank-yous he received for taking the time to chat and have photos taken. He appeared to enjoy talking with all comers, but had an especially good time talking with the youngsters who came up to him, eyes popping wide open over getting to personally meet this great Mantracker they’d watched faithfully on TV.

“That’s what I’ll miss the most” said Grant, when asked about all the people the show gave him the opportunity to meet right across North America.

Grant, a carpenter as well as a cowboy, builds furniture on his ranch in High River. He is a veteran tracker and a member of the Foothills Search and Rescue Team. He also, earlier this year, was named Chief Scout of Scouts Canada.

BCRacer – Alot of the footage is reenacted after the real chase is over. Heres a quote from one of the “prey”:

“You have two Cameramen with you, one with a shoulder mounted HD steady cam, and another with a small hand held HD cam. They are both dressed in full camouflage and have shot every single episode of the six seasons of Mantracker. They are both experts at what they do. Both of them are ‘Adventure Racers’, which are endurance races that can last up to 10 days at a time. Needless to say, they are ‘faster, better, stronger’ than you. If you drop down to hide, they drop. If you sprint indefinitely through the forest, they are with you. Anything you do, they do. For my episode, I am 100% confident that any time Mantracker saw us it was because of only us and not the cameramen. However, they do leave footprints — but so do you. The truth is you are going to be leaving footprints no matter what. This didn’t bother me. (For the record, both the Cameramen are really good guys too.)”

A scam? I enjoyed the whole concept, and Terry Grant portrayed a great Canadian cowboy/outdoorsman…. If your looking for something current, give the RCMP probable cause to track yourself and get a helmut camera….

You assumed my post was directed towards you just based on ……A scam?….. Sorry BC Racer that was not my intention

The thing I enjoyed about mantracker is it was filmed in some of our areas and it was a good way to showcase our area. I like the whole concept of the show too even though some “made for tv” scenes were put in but it is still a lot better than a lot of the other “reality” shows out there. Definitely have to say Terry trademarked the mantracker image and the new episodes are not the same without him!!
