New Hazelton, B.C. – RCMP believe alcohol may be a factor in a fatal crash in northwestern B.C.
Police and emergency crews were called out shortly after 11:30 Monday night 7 kilometres north of Kitwanga after a car left the road and ended up in the ditch off Highway 37 north. Witnesses reported seeing the black Pontiac going south in the north-bound lane before the driver over-corrected and left the road.
Emergency responders say the lone occupant was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Police shut down the highway in both directions, but there was a detour available.
West Pacific Region Traffic Services is investigating the crash. No name has been released.
