Thursday, August 22, 2013 @ 2:56 PM
Prince George, B.C.- The name of the Cuban ball player who is defecting has not yet been released.  As 250News first reported  just before 1 this afternoon, one of the  players on the Ciego de Avril Tigres is  defecting. There is speculation it is  first baseman Yozzen Cuesta but that has not been confirmed.

“As you can appreciate, the authorities are working through this” says World Baseball Championship organizing Co-Chair Jim Swanson.  Those authorities

The Cuban team, the Ciego de Avril Tigres, are in the final this evening playing for the gold medal championship and hoping a Cuban team will repeat and come out on top as they did two years ago.

“The game will go ahead” says Swanson “I don’t think we will know for sure the name of the player who is trying to defect until we see the line up sheets for tonight’s game.”

Swanson says the WBC has built a very good relationship with the Cubans and he is working hard to ensure that relationship stays intact.   Swanson says   it is not known who may have assisted the player, or where that player might be right now, “One thing is for sure, he didn’t runoff into the bush.”

The Championship game is set for 7 this evening at Citizen Field. Yes, there are tickets available.
