CBSA Working on Defection
Prince George, B.C.- It is now confirmed, the Cuban ball player who has defected is first baseman, Yozzen Cuesta.
Canada Border Services Agency is expected to make an official statement sometime tonight or early tomorrow on the matter.
Cuesta was expected to be in the line up for this evening’s championship game at the World Baseball Challenge.
WBC Co Chair Jim Swanson says the action by Cuesta is a decision by one player and does not mean the Cubans would not return to a future event in Prince George. "The Cubans have lost players in Holland, one in the U.S. and one in Haiti this year, but they are still committed to attending tournaments in those countries. We have built a strong relationship with the Cubans, who told us today, their offer to host a junior team during spring break still stands, so I don’t think that what has happened will hurt the relationship we have worked so hard to build."
It is not known where Cuesta may be, and Swanson says everyone is hoping he is ok. "His team mates are sad, they know they will not likely ever see him again, so they are disappointed."
But the championship game is still a go. It is set to start at 7.

That’s great, our team could probably use him.
AND, if he gets really homesick, he can always drop in on the “Cruising the Dub” on some night and check out the pre-1959 autos. No one on record ever defect to Cuba? Hmmmm.
Another immigrant our country will house, feed and get a good job!
I wish this young man the best. A tough decision to make and still a tough road ahead of him.
Relax. If he pulls it off he will be playing minor league ball in the States next week.
I wish the young man good luck–there are serious consequences to the family left ‘at home’! A very hard decision to make; and a life changing one for both him and his family in Cuba.
Yesss a tough decision.. Leaving his family and life. I wish him well :)
He will find a way to get to the US, and scouts will get him an agent.
I wish the man luck and hope he finds his dream and its worth the risk. Surely in a country like Cuba his family will suffer. He must be one heck of a good ball player to take the risk one would assume.
Check for him at one of the Tim Hortens, he will be disguised as one of the non English workers serving at the drive thru!
DEFECTOR? You mean illegal refugee.
Not facing torture or abuse at home in Cuba, he wants to immigrate for financial opportunity.
Watch as he turns up at the US Border desiring to try out for pro baseball.
Well, PGMakesmecrazy, Must be nice to have the liberty of free speech.
HMMM almost a racist tone to your commentaries.
Not racist… just think if your a Canadian Citizen you should attempt to learn our language. Shouldn’t have to “Press 1 for English” and then try to talk to someone you can’t understand a word they are saying.
There is adifference between racist and bigot by definition. PGMMC is not racist ;)
I’m not a bigot either. I have many friends of many races, religions, sexual preferences and diversified backgrounds. I just hate that a straight A student can’t get a job at fast food restaurant in turn they hire someone you need to repeat your order to 5x and it still comes wrong.
“I’ll get a black extra large”
“u wan fench banilla small?”
“No! I want an extra large black coffee”
“OK, 2 dohnuts and a milk, pea drive true”
What’s up with all the silly comments?
Is it not obvious that this guy had help?
And equally obvious that he will be playing pro baseball for a U.S. team in the near future?
metalman.
