Lane Resigns

Thursday, August 22, 2013 @ 5:52 PM

EXCLUSIVE

Prince George, B.C.- 250News has learned  Prince George Fire Rescue Chief, John Lane has resigned. Deputy Chief John Iverson will step into the role as Acting Chief.

The reason for Lane’s resignation has not been divulged.  He has been  in charge of the Prince George fire rescue since  June 1, 2011, taking over  the post in the wake of the retirement of Jeff Rowland.

Lane joined the Prince George Fire Rescue Service in 2005 from the Toronto Fire Services, and was heavily involved in implementing the Emergency Medical Responder program.

Over the course of his career, Lane has served as a paramedic, and was with the Toronto Fire Department for 15 years before making the move to Prince George in 2005.
When Lane took the post at Chief in Prince George,  he  told 250News  he had no plans for  early retirement. At the time, he told us "You’ve got me for a long time.”

That "long time"  has wrapped up  in just  over two years.

*moral… groan!

EVERYBODY please note –this is the PG Fire RESCUE chief. If I’m not mistaken, nothing related to the firefighters!

SJM PG Fire Rescue is the department involved with the stolen goods, earlier this year.

Sounds like too many chiefs.

Based on the City web site the service is called Prince George Fire Rescue

The chief is/was Lane

The departments are:
1. suppression
2. fires prevention and investigation
3. training
4. comunications

Perhaps the misunderstanding came from the proper title of the city service

Prince George Fire AND Rescue

not just Prince George Fire Rescue.

Well, some sites say Fire and rescue, other say fire rescue …..

So take your pick, obviously the communications department couldn’t care less, they have more important things to do. ;-)

Too many chiefs….do I dare ask how much we are paying all these chiefs? Do we really want to know?

Maybe the communications department can answer the question on the salary for chiefs, unless the suppression department is kicking in after consulting the training department. But then again the investigation department might have to look into it and prevent any fires from breaking out and I guess we’ll never know. ;)

It’s well known around City Hall that exempt staff usually get shown the door on a Thursday before payday. Guess what today is…. just saying….

Good scoop, Ben. Of course he didn’t resign, he was shown the door. Like one before him (Gilday) and before him (Kronebush). If only tax payers could be told how much this is costing us in settlements and non-disclosure agreements. The cost of the core review would no longer shock anybody, the cost of sending fire chiefs on their way is much, much more. Worth it to FOI and follow the paper trail on this.

It’s news because it’s costing you and all the other PG taxpayers money.
