Two Killed In Fiery Crash Yesterday

Thursday, August 29, 2013 @ 8:42 AM

Prince George, BC – Two people were killed yesterday’s head-on collision on Highway 97, north of Quesnel.

The RCMP’s Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services has confirmed the victims were in a southbound car that crossed the centre line into the path of an oncoming chip truck.  Both vehicles burst into flames as a result of the impact.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson says witnesses to the crash have been interviewed and there does not appear to be any obvious reason for the car crossing into oncoming traffic.  She says both the RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are investigating to determine causal factors in the crash.

Corporal Saunderson says a collision analyst was on-scene for several hours after the collision, which occurred shortly before 4pm yesterday near Hush Lake.  Highway 97 re-opened shortly after midnight this morning.

The RCMP would liked to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or may have observed either of the vehicles prior to the collision.

The names and hometowns of the victims are not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

How horrible. As a person who has been first on the scene of many a horrible car/truck crash, I feel for those who were first on the scene. Not a lot you can do for the victims when the car is on fire. RIP whoever you were :(

one article says it was a north bound car this one says it was south bound. I wonder if this is the vehicle that was trying to pass me just after the construction zone and the art n app sharp corner on hwy 97. They kept going in the opposite lane to see on coming traffic b/c it was on a corner. Then finally passed a string of cars on a double solid line on the crest of a hill.
