UNBC Secures Another Session Of Free Training

Tuesday, September 3, 2013 @ 3:53 AM

Prince George, BC – Individuals working in the natural resource sector could be eligible for some free training at UNBC this fall, with an eye to furthering their career goals in the industry.

As the result of a partnership with the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Development, the university will once again be offering eligible participants 35-hours of free training in workplace excellence.  Nicole Neufeld is the Sales and Proposals Writer for UNBC Continuing Studies and says the training provided will include:  Fundamentals of Project Management, Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety, Effective Workplace Communication, and Empowerment in the Workplace.

The program will be limited to 18 people.  Registrants must not have any prior post-secondary education (academic degrees or trade certifications) and must provide proof of their employment in the natural resource sector.

Continuing Studies Marketing and Communications Officer, Scott McWalter, says, "The Workplace Excellency training opportunity is a great way for lower level employees to develop the skills and resources necessary to organically advance within their company or, possibly, start one on their own."

UNBC putting this on again, for employed resource workers? But can’t have a degree?

“develop the skills and resources necessary to ORGANICALLY advance within their company”

So is this because this is a GREEN university?

I suppose one could look at this training as the fertilizer. :-)

One side note to that …… NOTHING is free! … First lesson to be learned.

In this case, the potential students are employed and are paying a variety of taxes. One or more of those taxation silos will go towards providing the “free” education/training.
