Detour For Passenger Traffic Around Crash Scene
Monday, September 2, 2013 @ 8:11 PM
Prince George, BC – A detour has been established for light traffic around the scene of a fatal two-vehicle collision on Highway 16, 20-kilometres west of Burns Lake.
No commercial traffic is allowed on the detour. A pilot car is escorting passenger traffic around the accident site.
The route is expected to re-open sometime between 10pm and midnight.
Highway 16 was closed just before noon by a head-on collision involving a sports utility vehicle and a motorhome. The lone occupant of the Jeep was killed in the crash, a man and woman in the motorhome were transported to hospital in Burns Lake with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP investigators remain on the scene.

Just came back from Hwy 16 West (Vanderhoof) and had some redneck moron try to kill us. Passed the guy because he wasn’t passing in a line-up of more than 15 vehicles built up behind a rebuilt bus/motorhome. Went past him, as did about 3 others, and he wouldn’t let me in in front of him. He sped up to close the gap and at that point there was oncoming traffic. I had to slam on the brakes and pull in behind him. Unbelievable stupidity on his part. I gave him time to pass because he was ahead and he didn’t go.
So sad that someone died out there today. RIP.
New black mustang blew by me on ness lake rd like I was standing still. I was doing 88 in a 80. He passed on a solid line by a blind spot on a hill. If anyone had been on the other side of hill they would be dead today. Called RCMP. Waste of time. Buying a truck. Don’t care about global warming anymore. Largest vehicle usually wins and he isn’t the first to pass me like this. White volkswagen suv did it three days ago. How gast do they need me to go? theres lots of safe areas to pass out here. Cops are useless when it comes to traffic enforcement. You’re on your own out there so keep your head up and drive the biggest thing you can afford.
How fast not gast. Sorry
Met up to the accident scene around 1:00 yesterday and a bunch of us turned around and went down the gravel road just about across from the old Berman Lake road. came out just around Rose Lake. Met lots of traffic heading out west. The alternate road was being used by lots of vehicles. Reason for no semi’s was a small road washout and we had to drive on the tip on a farmers field. Passed two semi’s when I went through – don’t know how they made out. Some spots were a little narrow. Can’t see why it took them so long to re-route the traffic.
Yep, and here we complain about being busted doing 20 over. everyone has a stupid moment.
If I really have to pass, I wait for a Passing Lane, to many Idiots on that Road. I normally meet up with them again at Walmart or Ferry , so all that passing gained them nothing.
ski50, we called the police too. Gave them the licence plate and description of the truck. Have heard nothing from them. I read the Motor Vehicle Act section last night that deals with passing and you do have to leave room for a vehicle to get between you and the next person safely.
I am a little bit embarrassed to admit this but I followed the guy and asked him why he wouldn’t let me in after passing and he said “there wasn’t enough room”. I guess he was too stupid to remember that he made it so there wasn’t enough room. Also too stupid to realize that had an accident happened because of his stupidity, he would have been caught up in it too. Scary that these people are on the road daily.
It’s highly unlikely he’s read the MVA. It’s illegal to speed up while being overtaken, and it’s generally wise to actually slow down while being overtaken – which is what I did, – so that you’re not part of the carnage that will take place if the guy passing you does hit someone in the on-coming lane.
But He Spoke has a point – we all have stupid moments, and hopefully the black mustang just had his, and it’s not a pattern of driving for him, because of it is, it’s only a matter of time.
(2) Except when overtaking and passing on the right is permitted, a driver of an overtaken vehicle,
(a) on hearing an audible signal given by the driver of the overtaking vehicle, must cause the vehicle to give way to the right in favour of the overtaking vehicle, and
(b) must not increase the speed of the vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle.
I went through the forestry roads to the west of Burns Lake. 3 hours into Houston in a transport. Talked to an RCMP officer to see if it was open. He said yes ‘told me I could go but keep my mouth shut. They didn’t want more head ons to deal with. There was also an accident in the detour close to the accident.
I have also seen some unbelievable acts of stupidity while driving the highways this summer. If you want to drive like an idiot, that’s your business. What really burns me up is when you risk the lives of my family and others with your stupidity.
