Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Cougars used two rapid fire scoring blitzes to down the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 in WHL pre-season action Sunday.
The victory in St. Albert, Alberta, coupled with Saturday’s 8-4 thumping of the Red Deer Rebels, gets the Cats off to a 2 and 0 record in pre-season play.
The first period of Sunday’s game was scoreless despite an 11-5 edge in shots on goal for the Cougars. The second frame was headed in the same direction until the 15:15 mark, when Jari Erricson scored an unassisted goal which was followed 20 seconds later by a Jordan Tkatch marker, his first of the pre-season. The Tigers got one back before the end of the period to make the score 2-1 Prince George.
In the third, Erricson scored his second of the game at 5:37 and Tkatch followed that up with an unassisted goal a minute later for the final tally of the game. Brett Zarowny blocked 20 of the 21 shots he faced for the victory as the Cougars outshot Medicine Hat 40-21.
Next up for the Cougars, a pair against the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday and Saturday nights at CN Centre.
