Prince George, B.C- The first Tour de North “Jail and Bail” fundraising event wrapped up yesterday with just over $6,300 in donations, $6,318.00 to be exact.
The event was meant to raise funds for the Cops for Cancer tour, which collects donations for childhood cancer research, and Camp Goodtimes, a special place for children with cancer and their families.
Although the total from the Jail and Bail was below what organizer Sherry Pattie had hoped to reach, she says it is a positive start “You have to start somewhere right?”
The event saw 9 people volunteer to be “arrested” and put in “jail”. They were sentenced for a variety of “crimes” from “failing to respond promptly to emails” to “giving away the farm with every vehicle sold”. The charges were only limited to the imagination and sense of humour of those who nominated the “jail birds” for arrest.
As part of their sentence, the convicted had to raise “bail”. While the minimum was $300 , most collected more than that, and promised to continue to help raise dollars even when they were released.
Anyone who missed the opportunity to make a donation today, can still make a donation to the Tour de North Cops for Cancer tour, by going to the Tour de North website.
