New Way for Business to Link with Projects

Called the Supply Chain Connector, it is a no-cost procurement database that allows industry to find industrial business partners in the north, and those business partners to advertise their expertise at no cost. The Supply Chain Connector has launched with a database of approximately 1,100 businesses across the region ready to connect with major project proponents.
"This is a one-of-a-kind tool in British Columbia," said Renata King, Director, Business Development, Northern Development Initiative Trust. "The Supply Chain Connector is free to use, mobile-enabled and electronically searchable, helping northern B.C. businesses market themselves to procurement managers."
King says she has already had calls from the Yukon and the UK asking for their companies to be added to the list, but the businesses have to be located within the Northern Development Trust Region in order to make it on to the Connector site. "Our region covers from Lytton to the Yukon border, Valemount to Haida Gwaii, that’s about 70% of the province" says King.
The Supply Chain Connector will be maintained by local economic development officers and businesses to ensure business information in the database stays current. Businesses are also encouraged to add and update their information to the database on an ongoing basis.

One would think that a bona fide business could look after its own procurements, etc; Since when is it the responsibility of NDIT (which operates on tax dollars) to supply, and update this information for business??
Next thing you know we will be supplying business with staff to look after things, or do we already do that?
Yeah, I have no idea why NDIT is in the supply chain business, when most established businesses should already have this well established. Maybe it’s just a front for advertisers?
I did a bit of exploring by seeking out the businesses I am familiar with.
I found businesses who responded to the question of “business license?” with “no” even though they would require one in PG and likely most other community they are located in.
The same for registration with WCB.
It is most certainly not complete, nor will it ever be since firms come and go, regroup and reinvent themselves. For the time being there are considerable gaps in the construction and forestry industry.
Also, for larger companies with subsidiary offices in many cities and even in the USA, they present the number of employees as 50+ for instance, but it is obvious this is not the size of the local office in the central and northern region.
As far as connecting with projects, I am not sure how the database will be doing that.
I would think that the more popular search would be for suppliers of products and services would be seeking projects which are proposed for which they might be able to offer their goods/services.
I see no directory of current projects such as the Daily Commercial News provides for the construction industry.
