Premier Heading Up Asia Trade Mission

Tuesday, September 10, 2013 @ 3:17 PM

Vancouver, B.C.- Premier Christy Clark has announced she will be leading a trade mission to Korea, China and Japan in late November.

The 13 day trade mission will start in Beijing on November 22nd, and will focus on advancing natural gas and LNG opportunities.

From China, the B.C. delegation will arrive in Seoul Korea on November 28th for participation in the Canada –Korea Natural Gas Forum. Korea is the world’s second-largest importer of LNG. Its public natural gas company, KOGAS, has signed long-term agreements with LNG Canada in Kitimat, and is involved in shale gas development projects in northeast B.C.

The Jobs and Trade Mission will arrive in Tokyo on Saturday Nov. 30, and the Japan program includes meeting with LNG investors and a B.C. natural resources lunch on Monday, Dec. 2.  Japan is a major partner in the development of B.C.’s natural gas and  LNG industry. Mitsubishi is a project partner in LNG Canada, and during the Jobs and Trade mission in May 2012, Premier Clark signed an agreement with Japan’s Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) to collaborate and share information on natural gas development activities.

The Premier returns to B.C., Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Lol
The real reason for no legislature sitting.

Need a vacation in Asia.

easy 100K from the taxpayer

I would get one of those radiation detector apps for the smart phone if I was going to Tokyo… a selling point for LNG.

Real reason for no legislature sitting, as of next week there will be no leader of the NDP. Who is going to step up next to have their butt handed to them by Christy.

Leader of the ndp(oxymoron) has about as much job security as #2 man in Al Qaeda.

I know this is hard for the resident ‘experts’ to comprehend, but in a global economy, this is exactly what the Premier should be doing.

Seems the latest BS from the Liberals is the sale of LNG.

What happened to all the hype about the sale of Lumber to China??? Pat Bell used to make a statement every month. Now all we get is silence.

From January to July softwood lumber exports to the USA was 8,239,508 Cubic Metres, with a value of $1,562,267,694.00. Exports of softwood lumber to Mainland China were 4,226,915 Cubic Meters, with a value of $751,336,317.00

In other words we get $13.00 per cubic meter more for sales to the USA than to China, which of course explains the huge increase to the USA and the decline in sales to China.

There is absolutely no doubt that the USA is our number one customer.

Now we will have to listen to the horse s..t on LNG for the next 3/4 years,.

Since there are billions of dollars on the table is this not her job? Just a little important I would think, just a little

Can’t improve on the comment made by JB so I’ll just say: Ditto.

BTW, NDP Premiers repeatedly made trips to the same locations.

Palopu…china typically buys low grade lumber for re manufacturing and concrete forms which explains the price difference. By the way lumber trade is reported in board feet and not cubic meters.

While BC alone does not dictate economic developments in global markets however BC must continue to be active participants and market its’ competitive advantages in global markets, especially in the natural resource sectors of oil, gas and Lumber. Premier Clark is doing the right thing by going to Asia on a trade mission.

Northman. I know that lumber is reported in board feet, especially in the USA, however these particular set of statistics on the BC Government website are reported in Cubic Metres. If you have a problem take it up with the Government.

Canada is already a huge exporter of LNG, to the USA. There is now a surplus of LNG around the world and especially in the USA. BC stands to actually lose sales to the USA as their ability to produce gas improves. In fact, the USA will become an exporter of LNG in the very near future.

The Government may want you to believe that we are in a good position to improve sales of LNG, but this is far from the truth. We have no exporting terminals which cost billions to build. We have no ships to handle the product. Ships cost about $200 Million each, and for all intents and purposes we have to compete on the world stage to get customers.

The Liberal Government is in the process of looking at a new tax structure for natural gas companies, and you can bet that they will be getting this gas cheap, so that we can compete.

DO NOT believe all the hype that is coming out of Victoria. We have a serious problem with the glut of LNG on the world market.

Here is an interesting threat to our LNG plants, the widening of the Panama canal

http://business.financialpost.com/2013/09/05/u-s-gas-via-panama-frightens-lng-exporters-worldwide/?__lsa=0a15-30f4

Guess what palpolou. It’s not government who is proposing the 5 LNG pipelines and LNG plants. It’s private business!! I’m pretty sure that both the govt and private business wouldn’t be doing this if there was no money to be made.

It’s NOT private business proposing the LNG pipelines and LNG plants northman, it’s foreign county owned companies like Japan, Australia, Korea, China, etc.

Here let me help you understand the extent of complete wholesale foreign ownership of our LNG resources to other counties in the world by posting this link. Read it carefully northman!!!

http://www.canadianenergylaw.com/2013/06/articles/oil-and-gas/lng-facilities-under-development-in-bc/

Wake up sheeple!!! 75% of the Alberta Tar Sands is owned by foreign corporations. Now a majority of BC’s LNG resources are owned by foreign corporations.

Our Lib-Con governments are allowing wholesale foreign ownership of our natural resources. We NEED a foreign investment policy, we NEED a National Energy Strategy!!!

But alas, BIG MULTI-NATIONAL OIL and MULTI-NATIONAL ENERGY are running our governments, it’s their interests first before ours!!!

Northman. No doubt there is money to be made, and it will be made by the LNG companies, who will get this gas CHEAP.

Who knows how much money the Government will actually get???? Much like the cheap stumpage on beetle killed timber. The lumber companies make money, however the Government gets diddly squat in stumpage.
