Smart Meter Options Outlined

Friday, September 13, 2013 @ 9:26 AM
Prince George, B.C. – BC Hydro has   issued it’s plan for those who don’t want to have a smart meter installed in their homes.

In a letter issued to those who still have analog meters, BC Hydro presents options:
1.      Have a smart meter installed at no extra cost.
2.      If you agree to have a smart meter installed, but want the radio transmitter turned off, you will be charged a one time fee of $100 for adjusting the smart meter, and $20 a month   for a manual reading. ( starting April 1, 2014)
3.      If you want to keep your analog meter, you will be charged $35 a month for manual readings. (starting December 2, 2013)

Hydro requires a decision by December 1, 2013.

The plan has yet to be approved by the BC Utilities Commission.

Seems to me that your cell phone, wireless router, blue tooth adapter in your car, GPS, GMRS radio, CB radio, microwave and a large variety of other ’emitting’ devices will create far more radiation than the little radio in a hydro meter.

^^^^All the items mentioned by “thisisme” are items people can buy by choice.

It will be interesting to see if the utilities commission approves or not before December 1.

Makes one wonder who knows who or what before the public does.

Wonder why they charge $35 a month when people can read it themselves? It does not take an hour to read one meter….

I still have my old meter. Have not received a letter nor a phone call from Hydro…….

Guesswhat you are surrounded by all that stuff. Here is a new worry for all you who worry about that stuff is the collision avoidance radars in more and more cars. Going to cook ones testicles.

The drug dealers have put up quite a resistance, and also have played into the fears of people. I think those who don’t have a smart meter installed should also bear the cost of all the stolen power.

I just don’t like things forced on me, and I don’t think I should pay more. I also don’t think it would have been a big deal if hydro just installed the new meters when the old ones needed replacement instead of spending tons of money that will come out of our pockets to do this mass change over!

I like my Smart Meter. Since it has been installed, my bills have gone down with no real change in my usage.

Although when I sit on my deck beside it, I hear voices…….or do I get double vision…..or what is the lastest issue people are claiming?

;)

Then there’s that big ball of radiation in the sky that has been radiating us with UV rays for the last three glorious weeks. Hate to think what it did to me. Or the barley by-product that I’ve had to consume in large quantities to deal with the heat from the aforementioned ball of fire in the sky. That meter is looking scarier all the time.

The pay to opt out and have manual reading seems fair! I wish I could pay extra to get non-medicated city tap water to my house.

Of course it’s fair. Why should I pay for other people’s paranoia?

When I open the “network and sharing center” on my computer, it shows that in my home, I am getting wifi signal from 8 different networks.
I don’t think you have a choice anymore, Wifi is everywhere, whether or not you feel like acknowledging that fact. It is in my home, vehicle, and many, many businesses I visit.
I am very curious about how, exactly, would you go about having a choice to avoid it?

If you think the health complaints are bad now, just wait until they actually turn the transmitters on!

News2me & seamutt – Read my previous posting. Where does it say anything of me being paranoid or otherwise of any of this technology?

Why do people have to read more into what a post says?

I commented on the article not on paranoia.

All I can say for sure is that I was forced to have one , and ever since I have been living with almost a non stop migraine , and my sleep pattern is not the same. I have not had a solid night sleep in almost 2 years . And my bill has gone up severely despite reducing my usage.

Rf frequency Cell phone 10000 times greater, cordless phone 1000 times greater, your wifi connection is 400 times greater, plus all your neighbours….give me a break.

BC Hydro is like a street gang that smashes up the local store and then offers to protect it for a fee. Its criminal blackmail to threaten to charge $35 a month to retain my old meter. My bill will go from $42 a month to $77 a month under this BC Hydro plan. Fortis BC pays their meter readers 40cents a meter so why does BC Hydro get to charge $35 nearly a 1000% more.

I don’t use a cell phone because they give me headaches. Why would I want one attached to my house transmitting for the whole neighborhood.

This whole program is about making BC liberal friends rich with a generous contract forced on the monopoly utility costumers and is ignorant of health effects. This is also about future prime time pricing for a utility company that uses 95% hydro which is not sensitive to time of use generation.

Furthermore we have the Chinese bragging they can shut down our power grid through the smart meter program. In Europe in places like Switzerland they maintained the hard wire to homes for national security reasons… with BC Hydro they don’t care about that.

I look forward to joining the class action lawsuit against BC Hydro for gouging and pushing an unnecessary health concern through their power of monopoly.

Guesswhat guesswhat! You have no choice of being bombarded from your neighbours wifi and everyone else’s wifi. I guess you could ask them to turn it off! At the same time call up the satellite operators and ask them to turn off their microwave producing satellites. Good luck with that!

Eagleone you don’t have to have hydro either!

Eagleone you are surrounded by RF there is no getting away from it. You are also surrounded by natural back ground radioactive radiation. There is arsenic in your rice.

Makes sense to charge something since the meter readers have to go to intimitent houses. Cannot just walk to them. Have to drive to them.

NoWay – get your facts straight. Read both my posts. I have not said I was against anything…or have a paranoia. Quit being a follower – get the facts first…..on the other hand Eagleone has admitted he is against it – LOL – see the difference in the posts? Duh…

Wrong noway, you should be charged more for the cost of this idiotic ‘smart’ meter roll out. $1.2 billion and counting will have to be recovered through rates that I pay… why should I have to pay for your ‘smart’ meter when mine was perfectly fine and had no problems to begin with.

Furthermore if we were to get smart meters then why didn’t they think to incorporate a way to bill back to hydro for independent power production for those who wish to use solar power or wind power? They want to keep their monopoly on power and force their price model on everyone. No choice.

Why the difference to read meters? The smart meter is 20 bucks a month to read and the ‘old’ analog or digital meter is 35 bucks to read?

100 million in stolen power per year and 60000 people not hooked up to smart meters. 35 dollars per month is far to cheap, add a hundred.

They had someone checking for hydro bypasses as they changed the meters, that is where they catch the power theft and nothing to do with the meter. There is no way the meter can ‘know’ power is being redirected before the meter base. The only way to ‘know’ is to have a reading of how much power is going to the house from the pole and how much is being read by the meter and subtract the two. This technology does not exist at this juncture

Since I have had a smart meter, my monthly payments have gone down.

So do all the people that have smart meters get $35 deducted since no one is coming to your house. Hydro are a bunch of thieving bastards. I think it is time to put my own hydro system in. Because now it is going up 26%. Christy says it wont so that means it will go up 50%.

slinky

The meters will not be able to detect a bypass on a individual house basis once the wifi is activated they will be take a real time reading of how much power is being metered in an area vs how much is being fed from the grid. If these numbers do not match they can then do further investigation- grow op or mechanical fault.

===========================================

As for those scared of the wi-fi I hear they are going to open a Faraday cage store in town. Standing at my front window my wi-fi sniffer can pick up over 40 networks and there are more out back.

You could also find a DeLorean and Christopher Lloyd and transport yourself to 1750.

People seem to forget Hydro is run by the government of the day. Look at the government sucking money out of Hydro. Hydro being forced to by very expensive from IPP’s before using their own much cheaper power.

Smart meters will not on their own detect a bypass but power usage history can play a part. Also it is now very easy to compare power usage on the circuit with a power reading at the subsection for that circuit. If there is a discrepancy between all the smart meters added up and the circuit reading at the sub. then further investigation is warranted. This can now be done in real time.

As for generating your own power, you haven’t looked into the costs have you.

Oh by the way analogue meters are no longer produced. One issue an analogue meter could last 50 years, smart meter 25. But who knows what the technology will be in even 5 nowadays.

Well lonesome sparrow, that would narrow it down to 1/2 of PG. Had a smart meter record 4,000.00 in a month on a 3 phase circuit with just a panel hooked to one plug in and an Hvac… does this mean hydro boys will jump out of a van and start investigating for a bypass as there was no way it could have drawn this amount of power?

They do Eagleone it’s called Netmetering. You can get credit against your bill if you are generating your own power with either wind or solar and putting it on the grid. At the end of the year if you have more credit than debit on your account Hydro pays you 6 cents a kilowatt hour. But guess what, you need a special smart meter for that.

Is your meter perfectly fine Eagleone? Just because it spins doesn’t mean it is accurate. They need to be recalibrated just like gas meters.

I re-read my post guesswhat and don’t see anything about me saying you are paranoid or against it. I’m just stating that we get blasted with a whole lot more that smart meter RF without our consent.
