Smithers, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office is investigating an incident involving the Smithers RCMP.

 

Over a period of approximately 12 hours on September 9, RCMP officers in Smithers had multiple dealings with an adult male.

 

After a medical assessment and some time behind bars, the male was released from custody.

 

It wasn’t long before police were called again, this time to a local business where the same adult male was in need of medical attention.

 

He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  The name of the deceased has not been released.

 

The IIO says the  incident occurred in a public setting and is hoping witnesses will setp forward with information by calling the IIO directly at 1-855-446-8477.
