Chiefs Edge Spruce Kings in Overtime

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings outshot the Chilliwack Chiefs by a two to one margin but wound up on the short end of a 2-1 overtime loss at the Coliseum Saturday night.

 

The Spruce Kings fired 43 shots at Lyndon Stanwood who stopped all but one and was named the game’s first star. The Chiefs led 1-0 after one period on Carter Cochrane’s goal at 16:55 of the first. The Spruce Kings outshot the Chiefs 18-4.

 

The second period was a repeat, this time the home team getting a late goal from Bryant Christian at the 17:58 mark. Shots on goal were closer, 17-11 for Prince George.   No scoring in the third as things tightened up, with the Kings holding an 8-6 edge in shots.

 

Off to a very brief overtime period as Kiefer McNaughton scored the winner at 55 seconds, giving the Chiefs a split in the two-game set at the Coliseum. The Spruce Kings took Friday night’s contest 7-1.

 

So, with a record of 1 win, two losses and an overtime loss, the Spruce Kings host  a couple of Interior Division clubs next weekend. Penticton is here Friday night followed by Trail on Saturday.
