Conifex Secures Funding, Moving Forward With BioEnergy Plant

Monday, September 16, 2013 @ 10:03 AM
Mackenzie, B.C.- Conifex  will be moving forward with its bioenergy power project in Mackenzie.

Conifex has announced it has received oral confirmation of about $100 million dollars in financing for the project from a “syndicate of lenders”.

Conifex expects to receive formal commitment for the Project Financing shortly.

Conifex had delayed construction on the 36MW bioenergy power project last November to allow time  to secure financing. At the time, the project was said to be 30% complete and was on budget. While construction and installation were put on hold, the company carried on with engineering and equipment procurement activities.

Conifex President and CEO Ken Shields says construction crews have been given the green light to return to the jobsite, and the plant is expected to be on line in September of 2014.

Well there ya go. I’d better get my Power Engineering ticket I suppose…..

Mackenzie has been making steady and positive growth over the past three years and the Bio Plant is another strong indicator of the market strength of the town. Three years ago all you heard from Mackenzie residents was gloom and doom and you can hardly find a negative word today.

Good on you Mackenzie. Now the District of Mackenzie needs to start increasing the tax levies on the industrial base so they can start playing catch up on all they have lost in their obviously successful business plan to offer tax incentives and breaks to keep and attract business.

There is a business model in place that other cities might want to look at. PG perhaps?

Good news all round. Way to go Mackenzie
