With a perfect 5-0 record in the preseason, the Cougars 20th anniversary season starts Friday in Portland, then hits Everett on Saturday and Tri-City on Sunday.
The Cougars’ home opener is set for Friday September 27th, and there will be a big party.
The Cougars will start the evening off with a Tailgate Party outside the CN Centre. “We will have something for everybody at our pre-game Tailgate Party,” said Prince George Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky. “Opening night at the CN Centre is always electric with the excitement and anticipation of the new season , and it all starts with the Tailgate Party.”
The Cougars will wear special commemorative Opening Night jerseys which will then be auctioned off online during the month of October. Fans will be able to submit bids until Thursday, October 24th at Noon Pacific Time on the Prince George Cougars website: www.pgcougars.com. Proceeds from the commemorative jersey auction will go towards The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.
It is a special day in the history of the Cougars, and to mark it, the Captain of the Cougars 1994-1995 season team, Clayton Catellier, will drop the puck in the ceremonial faceoff.

“We are so pleased that Clayton has been able to clear his schedule to make the trip back to Prince George to help us celebrate our 20th season” comments Brodsky. “Clayton moved to Prince George with us after having played for the team in Victoria, and he was a huge part of our organization. His heart, enthusiasm and dedication to the Cougars is still remembered by our fans.”
Brodsky says the anniversary celebrations won’t end on home opening night ( which has the Cougars facing off against the Kamloops Blazers) “We will be celebrating 20-years in Prince George throughout the entire 2013-2014 season with fun events and promotions for our fans. We’re so excited to reveal the commemorative jerseys on Opening Night.”
Fans can also look forward to the first intermission Lobster races courtesy of Save On Foods. The contestants will take home their lobster and winners will also receive tickets to Great Big Sea on Thursday, October 24th courtesy of the CN Centre.
Prince George Cougars season tickets will be available for pickup starting tomorrow at Ticketmaster in the CN Centre.

Celebrate by hiring a new GM. Maybe even a qualified one. Put Dallas in a position that he can handle, like a popcorn vendor. Brodsky wants a successful business, then he needs to run it like it is one. Stop hiring family.
Don’t get me wrong, I like that they are trying to raise money for charities, but maybe once give something back to the fans, if not maybe he should match what the jersey auction brings in.
Also… Stop charging minor hockey teams that come in wearing their team jerseys. Charge the parents of the hockey kids but not the kids. Want an example of how to treat your fans… go down the street and see what the Spruce Kings do.
Ok I will step down from my soap box. Thank you and carry on… :)
Well said justin case. I’ve always maintained that Rick Brodsky has only one problem…..It is obvious. He does not own a mirror.
I am hoping that this 5-0 preseason is a sign of things to come and shows a step in the right direction. I went to one game and saw more effort in that 60 minutes then I had seen in the past 2 seasons of games I’d been to.
I have said this over and over again. Rick Brodsky needs to hire a real hockey manager. He needs to FIRE his dead beat son-in-law and get someone who knows the process. We were season ticket holders for years. We quit going because of lack lustre talent brought here by their manager. Remember Stan Butler and Dennis Polenich. They had their heads in the game. With longstanding failure comes a hesitance for players to want to come to PG. Fans want to come back to WHL hockey here. Is it too much to ask for a good team to watch. And I like the idea of getting more young people to the games. The vast majority of the fans that continued to go were older folks who don’t cheer very loud and consider a Cougar hockey game a nice place to have a coffee and a visit. I was told to pipe down by 2 old ladies who were engaged in a conversation in the stands at a hockey game while the game was on. If you’re under 12, got a PGMHA or Cougars jersey on, come on in and cheer your arse off. No Charge.
I’ve heard of players not wanting to come here because the ownership is cheap. They have to compete not only on the ice but with all facets of the players life while here to play hockey. I’m sure Ron Toigo who owns the Vancouver Giants spends lots of money on his players. Right now they are re-building. In a couple of years they will be back in the game. The COugars have been on a rebuilding mission for the past 15 years or so with nothing to show but a couple of play off appearances and an early first round exit in most cases. That’s not good enough in today’s hockey circles. Anywhere else with an arms length non-family relationship and the manger is gone gone gone.
