Nearby residents watch as firefighters battle the intense blaze near Crest Road

Prince George, BC –  The residents were not at home, but firefighters were able to rescue two dogs from a Cranbrook Hill home engulfed in flames earlier today…

The blaze near Crest Road sent black smoke billowing up from the hillside shortly after 9am this morning.  Prince George Fire Rescue Assistant Chief, Greg Wilkins, says five trucks and 14 firefighters arrived to find the fire heavily involved.

"Due to the fire intensity and extension, crews initially used a defensive strategy to protect surrounding buildings," says Wilkins.  "They then spent the next two hours focused on extinguishing the fire."

A fire investigator is on the scene this afternoon, but Wilkins says, so far, no cause has been determined.  Damage to the home is extensive, but no dollar value is yet available.

It was probably at least ten minutes before I heard firetrucks heading that way up Massey towards Ospika after the smoke started billowing up. Seemed like quite a long response time to me but then I don’t know what all was involved.

Could have been a tanker truck from the Vanway firehall for back up water support responding as part of the response protocol.

Water supply is always an issue in rural areas.

Wot! Cranbrook hill is part of the City! so it must have all of the amenities of the city, right?
Just like the many of the neighbourhoods on the Hart, right?
