Prince George, B.C. – Foreign students who have come to Prince George for their education will receive some local hospitality today at the International Student Welcome Event.
The Social Development Coordinator with the City of Prince George, Sarah Brown, says the event was started four years ago and is a partnership between the City, CNC, UNBC, Shecana International and School District 57. “It’s a fun event that’s about welcoming the students and giving them a little bit of an introduction to the community. It’s a way to launch their school career here in Prince George.”
It takes place in Veteran’s Plaza in front of City Hall from 3 to 5pm and features barbecued food, games, photo opportunities, prizes, entertainment, council chamber tours and some speeches. The event goes ahead rain or shine, with a few tents set up in case of really inclement weather. And following the events at City Hall students hop aboard three transit busses for a tour of the city and the facilities they may want to use.
Brown says there are usually 350 to 400 international students who turn out to the event.
