Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings made it a perfect weekend on the lower mainland Sunday afternoon, scoring a 4-3 double overtime victory over the Coquitlam Express.
After scoring come-from-behind wins over Coquitlam Friday and then Chilliwack Saturday, the Spruce Kings grabbed the lead in their third game in two-and-a-half days, Skylar Pacheco scoring at 14:02 of the first period. But the Express got that one back in a hurry with a goal at 15:26. Another goal at 17:40 and Coquitlam had a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Karan Toor, with his second goal of the weekend and second of his BCHL career, scored a shorthanded goal at 16:01 of the second to tie the game after 40 minutes. In the third, the Spruce Kings took the lead again when Christian Weidauer scored at 2:02. But the Express came back to tie it again on Ryan Rosenthal’s goal at the 6:31 mark. The third ended 3-3, with the contest going to overtime.
In the first O/T Coquitlam both teams had a power play but nobody could put the puck in the net. That sent the game to double overtime and three-on-three play and it didn’t take long, just 29 seconds, for Bryant Christian to pick up a rebound and fire the puck past Gordie Defiel for the winning goal. The Express outshot Prince George 40-27.
