Prince George, B.C.-  Emergency crews are on scene at 9th and Brunswick this morning, dealing with a  natural gas leak.

The leak appears to have been caused by  crews working  on the  site across from the  existing RCMP  station,  a site that is to be home  to a new  Hotel-condo development.

While guests of a  motel  have been evacuated, RCMP  say it appears the  Tim Hortons "drive Thru" is  doing business as usual.   RCMP  Media Liaison Corporal, Craig Douglass says   Fortis Gas is on the scene and repairs  are underway.

In the meantime, there are some driving restrictions in the   area bounded by 8th to 9th  between  Victoria and Brunswick Streets.

Another “Dial Before You Dig” system failure?

More like a failure of the backhoe operator.

Since when does Call Before You Dig guarantee anything? It’s just a step in the process. At the end of the day, somebody has to run the equipment. Let’s just say there are good operators and there are bad ones. A phone call is not going to fix the bad ones.

call before you dig didn’t work in Quesnel a couple months ago! the line was one that wasn’t on their maps!

Does anyone know the affects from breathing or smelling the gas fumes that are floating around the area? I know I have a head ache.

Kiplett, Call before you dig doesn’t mean hydro or Fortis look at drawings, typically the send a surveyor out with a ground sensor to map lines and prove none are present. Unfortunately drawings are always what is completed in the field.
