Olympic-Sized Dream Realized: Kin I Concrete Poured
Reflections of a new Kin I Arena photo submitted
Prince George, BC – A sheen of water coats the freshly poured concrete that will be the new Olympic-sized ice rink in the Kin I Arena…
The concrete signals that work on the $16.5-million dollar Kin Centre Enhancement Project is nearing completion – the slab must cure for one month before it can be cooled and ice installed. City officials expect the facility to be in full use by the end of December.
The new, larger 200’x100′ ice surface conforms to the Olympic and NHL standard, and was a major component in upgrading the Kin Centre Complex in preparation for hosting the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
Most of Kin I was re-built as part of the project, as well as new dressing rooms, service areas, and a lounge in Kin II.

For last winter Olympics in Vancouver, hockey was played on a 200′ x 85′ rink. The CN Centre ice is expandable to 200′ x 100′. So now we have two. Maybe PG should look at getting a team in the Kontinental Hockey League. (KHL).
Does it have Olympic sized seating?
I think I heard they need the olympic size sheet not for hockey but for speed skating. It should be interesting to watch the Canadian Short track speed skating championships that are set for next spring as a test event for the 2015 games.
I do hope they license the concession or put in a restaurant so we can have a beverage inside after rec hockey instead of huddling around a pickup truck in the parking lot in the dead of winter.
There are 2 pubs within a short distance. Assuming your going to knock a few back and drive home a couple of blocks sober shouldn’t be a big deal

There is absolutely no reason not to provide beer and wine sales in a location like that. I have not been to the second level “lounge” space, if one wants to call it that, for many years. However, I thought that during the occasion I was there for there was beer available. If it was, then probably a special occasion license.
Drink your face off if you are going to walk or get a cab there!

Gus if you wanna go to a hockey game , go to the rink. If you wanna drink, go to a bar!!
I do believe that drinking is allowed in the CN centre at various location – private boxes, possibly one of the sections, a section of the mezzanine? Also during entertainment events.
Is audience reaction/decorum any different in those cities which allow drinking alcoholic beverages while watching a ball game, a hockey game, etc. from those cities which do not?
It may be that PG is simply not mature enough.
BTW, I stay away from alcohol other than an occasional drink with a meal at restaurants. Alcohol breaks down into sugars which I can do without, thank you.
I say to movie goers bringing in snacks, if you want to eat, go to a restaurant. ;-)
