RCMP Investigate Suspicious Death Near Fort Nelson

Sunday, October 6, 2013 @ 4:08 PM

Fort Nelson, BC – The RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit is investigating a suspicious death near the community of Fort Nelson…

Senior Media Relations Officer, Sergeant Rob Vermeulen, says a call came into North District’s Operations Command Centre in Prince George yesterday afternoon, reporting that a deceased male had been found in a parked vehicle in a recreational pull-out near Fort Nelson.

Sergeant Vermeulen says officers attended and located the victim in a car.  He says police have since determined the vehicle was rented in Surrey on September 30th.  The pull-out is 24-kilometres south of Fort Nelson and Vermeulen says it’s a spot frequently attended by locals.

"The incident is being treated as suspicious, as foul play cannot be ruled out at this time," says the RCMP spokesperson.  "Police are in the process of trying to identify the deceased male."

Anyone who may have observed a gray 2013 Hyundai Sonata with the BC licence plate 180 LMV enroute from Surrey to Fort Nelson, between Monday, September 30th and Saturday, October 5th is asked to contact the RCMP.
