Run For The Cure Raises $80K
Local breast cancer survivors were cheered on as they led the way to the start of the 2013 Run for the Cure yesterday
Prince George, BC – Preliminary figures following yesterday’s Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure indicate the local event raised just shy of $81-thousand dollars.
While the national run is into its 22nd year, this was the 12th local event and brings the community total to approximately $1.3-million dollars raised since 2001. The funds go towards breast cancer research, awareness, and advocacy. Local Co-Run Directors, Shari MacLellan and Renee McCloskey (at right) work year-round to organize the volunteers and logistics needed to make the local event a success.
And approximately 350 participants and volunteers came out to yesterday’s run and ceremonies at the Civic Centre Plaza, where local breast cancer survivor, Lisa Norman, shared her story and encouraged everyone, "to make time for health, take care of yourselves, be curious enough to question, be brave enough to act, get your mammogram and be proactive."
Runs in BC raised $2.6-million dollars yesterday. The total across the country for this year’s Run for the Cure is $27-million dollars.
